Open Class Competitions At 2017 Palo Alto County Fair

The 2017 edition of the Palo Alto County Fair is rapidly approaching and a call is being issued for entries in the Open Class Photography, Food and Garden Shows. There will be two divisions of competition in each of the shows for the fair, which will run July 20-23 at the fairgrounds in Emmetsburg.

There Open Class shows will feature two division in each area consisting of youth age 17 and under and adults. Exhibitors will be allowed up to six entries in photography and eight entries in each food and garden divisions. Premiums will be paid to entries in all classes except the Photography Challenge lasses.

Photography will include both color and black and white photos in classes of: people, scenic, building/architecture, nature, and animals. There will also be two challenge classes Beautiful Iowa "Small Town Treasures" and Conservation "Native Prairies".

The top three photos in each challenge class, youth and adult, will receive cash prize of $50 for first, $25 for second and $10 for third place.

The Conservation class is being sponsored by Palo Alto County Soil and Water Conservation District and the Beautiful Iowa class is sponsored by Farmers Mutual Insurance.

Food classes will include baked goods in the classes of yeast breads, quick breads, cookies and cakes.

Garden classes will include vegetables, flowers and pails of posies.
