by Dan Voigt , Emmetsburg News

Emmetsburg's E-Hawks were edged by Pocahontas Area/Laurens-Marathon in a 3-2 contest Tuesday night.

The E-Hawks drew first blood with a run from Brent Wesley in the opening inning, but the Indians would answer with a run of their own for a 1-1 tie.

The game would remain knotted at 1-1 in a defensive battle, as both teams traded outs. But, the Indians would plate a run in the bottom of the fifth inning and added a third run in their half of the sixth for a 3-1 lead at the end of the sixth inning.

Emmetsburg would come up in the top of the seventh inning and promptly got a double from Will Schany, who would score off a single from Jeremiah Weir, but Weirs was left waiting when the E-Hawks were retired to end the ball game.

Connor Joyce took the loss in four and two-thirds innings, allowing two earned runs off two hits with six walks and a strikeout. Matt Kibbie relieved for an inning and a third, giving up one earned run off two hits with one strikeout.

Offensively for the E-Hawks, Will Schany had a double, while Jeremiah Weir had two hits and Brent Wesley and Dylan Kibbie both added base hits.
