Allen P. Trelstad 1926-2017

Funeral service for Allen P. Trelstad of Emmetsburg will be held Wednesday, May 31, at 11 a.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg. The Rev. Peter Morlock will officiate.

Inurnment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Emmetsburg, with military graveside rites by members of V.F.W. Post #2295, Emmetsburg. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is Tuesday, May 30, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg.

Allen Peder Trelstad, son of Peder Melvin and Pearl (Faudskar) Trelstad, was born Oct. 28, 1926 in Bemidji, MN. He attended Fertile High School. In November of his senior year Al enlisted in the United States Navy at the age of 17.

After returning from the service, Al completed his high school education at Waldorf College. While at Waldorf, Al met Marjorie Bergland who would become his wife on Aug. 28, 1948 at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills. They celebrated 68 years of marriage

Al and Marge made their home in Moorhead, MN where Al attended Concordia College, graduating in 1950. They were blessed with three children. The Trelstads made their home in Buffalo Center for six years before moving to Emmetsburg.

After moving to Emmetsburg, Al operated the State Farm Insurance Agency for 40 years. He was a member of many civic organizations and was an avid E-Hawk supporter. He received the Iowa Football Coaches District Service award. He was also an active member of Rotary International.

Al was a devoted member of Bethany Lutheran Church, where he enjoyed attending Bible Study and singing in the choir. His coffee group was very important to him and he loved spending time with his family, especially the grandchildren.

Al passed away Friday, May 26, 2017 at Mercy Medical Center in Mason City, at the age of 90. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. and Mrs. P. M. Trelstad; his wife, Majorie on June 19, 2016; brothers, Maynard Trelstad, Luther Trelstad and Paul Trelstad; sisters, Pearl Clear, Beverly Shelstad and Priscilla Wasburg.

He is survived by his children, Bruce A. Trelstad (Denise) of Maple Valley, WA, Pamela S. Trelstad (Frank Esser) of Cedar Falls, and Marsha J. Gift (Andy) of Denver, CO; his grandchildren, Allen Guthart, Laren Trelstad, Travis Trelstad, Joseph Gift, Amanda Trelstad, Emma Gift, Rachel Manternach (Andy), Nora Gift, Nate Esser (Jill), and Alison Esser (Jason); nine great grandchildren; two brothers, Melvin Trelstad (Loretta), of Cokato, MN and David Trelstad (Judy), of Buffalo, MN; nieces and nephews; as well as many other relatives and friends.
