Richard Clasing 1930-2017

RUTHVEN -- A Mass of Christian Burial for Richard A. Clasing will be held today, Tuesday, April 25, at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ruth- ven. The Rev. Clem Currans is the celebrant.

Interment is in Calvary Cemetery, Ruthven. Military graveside rites will be conducted by members of American Legion Post #33, Ruthven. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Ruthven is in charge of arrangements.

Richard Albert Clasing, son of Albert W. and Mary S. (Currans) Clasing, was born Oct. 20, 1930 near Ruthven. He received his education in Ruthven, graduating from Ruthven High School in 1949. Dick served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, and was stationed in Japan.

After being honorably discharged from the service, Dick returned to Ruthven where he farmed. He was united in marriage to Merrylea Garrelts in 1954 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ruthven. To this union four sons were born.

Dick later married Joyce Barg and they made their home in Ruthven. They built a new house in Ruthven where they have continued to lived.

Dick loved farming and was a cattle feeder for his entire life. He also sold insurance in Emmetsburg and Spencer.

Dick was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ruthven. He was also a member of the Ruthven American Legion Post #33, the Iowa Cattlemen's Association, and Palo Alto County Cattlemen's Association. Dick had served as a 4-H Leader for many years.

Dick passed away Friday, April 21, 2017 at his home in Ruthven, at the age of 86. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother, Robert Clasing; brother, Dale Clasing; sister, Audrey Drake; and a step son, Bruce Barg.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce of Ruthven; his children, Steven Clasing of Emmetsburg, Paul Clasing of Emmetsburg, Kevin (Kitty) Clasing of Mason City, and Jay (Deanna) Clasing of Ruthven; step children, Renee (Mike) Elbert of Royal, and Christine (Jeff) Henderson of Omaha, NE; his grandchildren, Kristie (Dustin) Palmer, Kari (Andy) Pelkner, Kourtney Clasing, Sarah Clasing, Molly Clasing and Tyler Clasing; two step grandchildren, Michael and April; three great-grandchildren, Camden, Devon and Elodie; several step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren; a sister, Sandra (Hal) Wilke of Mesa, AZ; nieces and nephews.
