Local Preps To Play In All Star Games Saturday

A pair of Emmetsburg High School Seniors will take to the courts one final time this Saturday night to play in the 2017 Dordt College Defender Gold Classic.

Bailey Naig and Thomas Schultes will both play for the Lakes Conference All Star squads in their respective games this Saturday, March 18, at Dordt College in Sioux Center.

Bailey Naig, the daughter of Jeff and Tammy Naig, was the Lady E-Hawks' leading scorer during the season, scoring a total of 268 points. Naig connected on 88 of 244 two-oint field goals for 36.1 percent accuracy and nine of 43 three-point field goal attempts for 20.9 percent shooting. At the free throw line, Naig made 83 of 143 shots, 58 percent accuracy, to average 11.7 points per contest in 23 games. Bailey would dish out 47 assists, while making 30 steals and blocking four shots. On the boards, Naig grabbed 40 offensive rebounds and 96 defensive boards for a total of 136, an average of 5.9 rebounds per game.

The Defender Gold Club/American State Bank Girls All-Star Game will get underway at 5:30 p.m. in the DeWitt Gym on the Dordt College Campus.

Thomas Schultes, the son of Lynn and Beth Schultes, led the E-Hawks with 275 points, hitting 89 of 229 shots from two-point range for 38.9 percent accuracy and 36 of 108 three-point attempts for 33.3 percent, while making 61 of 92 free throws for 66.3 percent shooting to average 13.1 points per game. Thomas would dish out 93 assists to his teammates in 21 games, made 21 steals and blocked five shots, while collecting 17 offensive rebounds and 78 defensive boards for a total of 95, an average of 4.5 per contest.

The Defender Gold Club/American State Bank Boys All-Star Game will tip off around 7:15 p.m. Saturday night.

The All-Star games feature senior players from the Lakes Conference, War Eagle and Siouxland Conferences.
