James E. Handy 1941-2017

RUTHVEN -- Funeral service for James Handy of Ruthven will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 26, at the United Methodist Church in Ruthven. The Rev. Kris Hackbart will officiate.

Interment will be in North Lawn Cemetery, Spencer. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be Thursday from noon until 1:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Ruthven.

James Eugene Handy was born June 25, 1941 to James Albert and Evelyn Ella (Simpson) Handy in Spencer. He was baptized in the United Methodist Church in Ruthven. Jim began his education in country school near Royal and Sutherland. His family moved to Ruthven, where Jim completed his education, graduating from Ruthven High School.

On Nov. 16, 1963 Jim was united in marriage to Kay Seid She and Jim were involved in an automobile accident on April 19, 1965 and Kay died as a result of this accident.

He was later married to Ramona Ray Jackson on Feb. 14, 1969.

Jim was employed at M & JR Hakes in Spencer for several years. He owned and operated a bar at Knierim for awhile and then worked for Winnebago Industries in Forest City.

After returning to Ruthven, Jim began working for the City. He was employed with them just a few months short of 20 years. Jim also helped his parents care for the cemetery.

Jim passed away Sunday, Jan. 22, 2017 at Osage Rehab Center in Osage, at the age of 75. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Kay; and two nephews, Bradley Bruns and Rodney Koenig.

He is survived by his fianc, Darlene Miner of Ruthven; Darlene's children, Richard (Debbie) Feldman of Ruthven, Dennis Feldman of Ruthven, Robin (Don) Hoskinson of Portland, OR and Stacy (Lynn) Miner of Grimes; five grandchildren; sisters, Annabelle (Bob) Busse of Laurens, Alta (Gordon) Bruns of Spencer, Melva (Dennis) Koenig of Ruthton, MN and Mary (Orlin) Lundbeck of Royal; several nieces and nephews.
