Elmer Gary Frink 1931-2017

Funeral service for Elmer Gary Frink of Emmetsburg will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg. The Rev. Peter Morlock will officiate.

Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Emmetsburg. Military rites will be presented at the grave site by members of VFW Post #2295. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is Friday, Jan. 13, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg.

Elmer Gary Frink, son of Elmer and Stella (Norland) Frink, was born Feb. 25, 1931 in Emmetsburg. He received his education in Emmetsburg, graduating from Emmetsburg High School.

Following graduation, Gary served in the Iowa National Guard for a short time before enlisting in the United States Air Force on Dec. 30, 1950. He served as a Radiology Technician until being honorably discharged on Dec. 10, 1954.

While in the service Gary was united in marriage to Nancy Ann Higley in Minnesota. To this union two children were born.

Gary returned to Emmetsburg to farm which he continued for the rest of his life. He also was a hail adjuster for Farm Bureau and he and his family ran the Shamrock in Emmetsburg for several years.

Gary was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post #2295 in Emmetsburg and a member of the American Legion in Apache Junction where he and Nancy wintered. Gary was a past member of the Emmetsburg Jaycees and he enjoyed helping with many of the St. Pat's celebrations.

Gary passed away Sunday, Jan. 8, 2017 at his son's home in Apache Junction, AZ, at the age of 85. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Nancy in 2014; one brother, Dr. Lyle Frink; and one sister, Eleanor King.

He is survived by his children, Geri Lynn Frink of Emmetsburg, and Greg Frink and his wife, Mary Ellen of Apache Junction, AZ; six grandchildren, Paula Garman, Gregory Frink, Jr., Megan Frink, Todd Frink, Jeff Headley and Roxanne Tasler; six great grandchildren; and a brother-in-law, Skip Higley of Florida.
