January 3, 2017
Emmetsburg News

A Mass of Christian Burial for Maxine Wilson will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2017 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mallard. Interment is in St. John's Catholic Cemetery, Emmetsburg.

Maxine Ellen Schumacher was born November 18th, 1924, to her parents, Louis and Hazel (Dramon) Schumacher, at the home farm near Mallard, IA. Along with her siblings, she graduated from Mallard High School. Maxine continued her education in Sioux City, obtaining her nursing diploma at St. Vincent College of Nursing.

In 1947, she married the dashing suitor who sought after her, Bruce Eldon Wilson, in Mallard, IA, where they farmed and Maxine started her nursing career. Once three children were born, the family moved to an acreage near Council Bluffs, IA, and Maxine worked at the local hospital. Later, they moved back to Emmetsburg, IA, and Maxine continued her nursing career at Palo Alto County Hospital. She retired as the Head Nurse of the OB Department. She delivered many local babies over the years, including some of her own grandchildren.

Maxine was involved in many activities throughout her life, from baking and canning, to traveling and spending time with her precious family. Beware of Maxine when playing cards, as she was very competitive; as she was with all games, including the family Christmas gift exchange. She was known for her beautiful crocheted blankets that she gave as gifts to her children and grandchildren for all of their milestones. She took pride in the fact that she learned how to swim at the age of 70 years old.

Left to cherish her memory are her children; two daughters, Vicki (Jim) Hill and Cindy (Tom) Chapman, and a son, Brad; grandchildren: Laura (Doug), Jeff, James (Mindy), Sara, Molly (Jason), Adam (Jamie), Melissa, Jacob, Sadie (Lennon), and Anna; great-grandchildren: Rebecca (John), Seth, Sydney, Wade, Ava, Ella, Izak, Sam and Truman; great-great grandchildren: Grayson, Owen, and Penelope; and her brothers, Maurice and Richard (Ann).

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Bruce (of 69 years), a son, Gregory Allen, and her siblings Pearl, Louis, Dorothy, and Dennis.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Palo Alto County Hospital Foundation - 3201 First Street, Emmetsburg, Iowa 50536.
