Foundation “Here For Good” For Local Communities

December 27, 2016
Emmetsburg News

The Palo Alto County Community Foundation (PACCF) was formed in February to give charitable, community-minded people who want to strengthen their community a new opportunity to support the local causes they care about. The Foundation focuses on establishing endowed funds to provide long-term support for nonprofits and community projects through grantmaking.

Since the announcement, the PACCF, an affiliate of the Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa (CFNEIA), has grown to hold 11 funds, eight of which are available online at www.paloaltoccf.org for anyone to contribute to. These funds are a base to start impacting Palo Alto County and have been established by families and agencies who love their communities.

This exciting start was made possible with assistance of the Palo Alto County Gaming Development Commission (PACGDC), which provided $10,000 to get the Foundation started. In addition, the PACGDC matched $50,000 for donors establishing new funds with the PACCF. Each donors gift to the PACCF was partially matched, and through the establishment of new funds the matching dollars have been exhausted.

The PACCF is grateful for this support and the support of residents across the county. Through this generosity, PACCF now has over $185,000 in assets to be use to improve the quality of life in Palo Alto County forever.

A core of the community foundation philosophy, endowments allow gifts to continue in perpetuity, providing a financial safety net for the community. These dollars are invested and professional managed to achieve long-term growth by balancing principal protection with distributions to support local nonprofit organizations. Making an endowed gift with PACCF means it will last forever.

The PACCF also offers unique tax benefits to those who want to give where they live. Gifts to endowed funds with the PACCF supporting Iowa charitable causes are eligible for the Endow Iowa 25% state tax credit. This is in addition to federal tax credits. Six million dollars in Endow Iowa credits are available each year.

During this giving season, people are looking to give back to the communities that have supported them. They'll also look to ensure that their heartfelt giving will have the most impact. That's why so many of them will choose to give to a community foundation.

Anyone can make a gift to the PACCF or any of its funds, and a gift is an investment in the future of your community. Donors can make a gift that fits how they want to impact their community or the cause they care about. They can also know their gift will benefit local projects as they intend forever.

The Palo Alto County Community Foundation gives thanks to all those, past and present, who have made it possible for us to be "here for good." We look forward to working with nonprofit partners and local foundations to create even more positive impacts in the county we live in and love.
