Col. Clement Eagan 1932-2016

BRYAN, TX -- Col. Clement Eagan; Ret. U.S. Army.

Col. Eagan was born on Nov. 12, 1932 to William F. Eagan and Josephine M. (Sherlock) Eagan in Emmetsburg.

He was a 1950 graduate of Emmetsburg Catholic High School and received his Doctorate of Dental Surgery degree from University of Iowa in 1956. He completed the advanced course at the US Army Medical Field Service School, Ft. Sam Houston, TX in 1964 and received a B.A. degree in History from the University of Albuquerque in 1967 followed by a Masters Degree in History from the University of Texas at El Paso in 1988.

Col. Eagan entered active duty at Ft. Sam Houston in 1956. He served as a dental officer at Aschaffenburg, Germany; at Ft. Leavenworth, KS, in Korea and Brooke Army Medical Center at Ft. Sam Houston. He then served as a prosthodontist at Sandia Base, NM before serving as the Dental Clinic Chief at Giessen, Germany and White Sands Missile Range, NM. He continued his career in the Army as Commander of Dental Services at Wurzburg, Germany and returned to serve as Clinic Chief at Fort Benning, GA and Ft. Bliss, TX. He then retired at Fort Bliss, TX in 1986 and resided in El Paso, TX for 30 years. While serving at Sandia Base he was awarded the Joint Services Commendation Medal for his meritorious service. In 1984 he was inducted into the Order of Military Medical Merit. Col. Eagan was 849 out of what is now over 10,000 honored members.

Since 2012 Col. Eagan and his wife Janet have made Bryan, TX their home.

Mass of Christian Burial was held Wednesday, Sept. 28, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in College Station. The Hillier Funeral Home of Bryan, TX was in charge of arrangements.

Burial will be held Friday, Sept. 30, at 1:30 p.m. at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio with full military honors.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Janet S. Eagan; daughter, Liz Shimshack of College Station, TX and daughter, Angela Eagan of Johnson City, TN; grandson: John Childs and wife Maggie of Nashville, TN; great-grandson: Felix Childs; and sister-in-law, Cynthia Porter of Bryan, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Josephine Eagan; brothers Russell Eagan, John Eagan, William Eagan, Emmett Eagan, Robert Eagan, and Carl Eagan; sister, Ruth Parrish; brother-in-law Harry Porter and son-in-law, Allan Shimshack.
