Eileen M. Herbers 1927-2016

September 27, 2016
Emmetsburg News

Funeral Mass for Eileen Herbers of Ayrshire was held Saturday, Sept. 24, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ayrshire.

Burial was in Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Ayrshire. The Joyce Funeral Home in Emmetsburg was in charge of arrangements.

Eileen Mary Herbers was born March 3, 1927, the daughter of Victor and Elisabeth (Goecke) in Willey, IA. She attended St. Mary's Grade School in Willey and then graduated from St. Angela's Academy (now Kuemper) in Carroll.

On March 29, 1948, Eileen was united in marriage to Eugene John Herbers at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Willey. Within a year, the couple moved to a farm near Ayrshire, and began raising their family shortly thereafter.

Eileen was a member of Ayrshire Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Altar Society, and the CD of A. Eileen also served on the Horizons Unlimited board and was very involved with that organization. Eileen was a very dedicated church organist for over 50 years, starting when she was a teenager at St. Mary's in Willey and continuing for many, many years at Ayrshire Sacred Heart Church.

Eileen enjoyed playing cards, putting together jigsaw puzzles and spending time with her family. She felt blessed to have all six of her children within an hour's driving distance from home. She lived by the Golden Rule and gave the best bear hugs! Eileen had an unshakable faith in God.

On Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2016, Eileen passed away at PARC Hall in Emmetsburg.

Eileen is survived by her six children; Larry Herbers and Joann of Emmetsburg, Donald Herbers and Audrey Ann of Milford, David Herbers of Emmetsburg, Mary Jane Krause and Dave of Fenton, Paul Herbers and Myrna of Arnolds Park, and Suzanne Rouse and Ron of Curlew; one brother, Leo Wernimont of Fonda; 14 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Eugene; two sisters: Ruth Bellinghausen and Margaret Reiman; and her brother, Walt Wernimont.
