Funeral service for Deryll A. Brodersen of Ayrshire was held Monday, Sept. 12, at the United Methodist Church in Ayrshire. The Rev. Kris Hackbart and Fr. Steve Brodersen officiated.

Interment was in the Laurens Cemetery at Laurens. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Deryll Alfred Brodersen, son of William and Goldie (Kemp) Brodersen, was born on Dec. 26, 1926, the second of three sons. He was raised on a farm south of Ayrshire and graduated in 1943 from the Silver Lake Community School. In 1949, he was united in marriage to Joyce Ilene Pomeroy in Jackson, MN. To this union, four children were born.

Deryll and Joyce made their home southeast of Ayrshire until 1980 when they moved to his parent's homestead where they continued to farm until he retired in 2002. Deryll was a dedicated and hardworking farmer who took a lot of pride in his farming operation.

Along with farming, Deryll worked at Mefford's Industry, and he also enjoyed doing carpentry work with Stan Clark Construction out of Laurens. In 1976, he utilized his workman's craft by building a cabin on Lost Island Lake where family, friends, and even strangers would gather. Everyone was welcome by both land and water to stop in at their blue cabin to chat, relax, eat, go for a leisurely ride in the pontoon, or take a spin on Deryll's green wave runner which he never seemed to lose sight ofjust ask the grandkids about Grandpa's binoculars!

Deryll was also very active in the community. He was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church in Ayrshire. He also served on the Ayrshire Elevator Board, the Booth Township Trustees, and the Election Board.

Deryll passed away on Friday, Sept. 9, 2016, in Emmetsburg at the age of 89. But more importantly than Deryll passing away, Deryll passed our way, allowing us to know and love him, to remember and cherish his many stories, sometimes exaggerated, even questionable, frequently repeated, but always humorous and entertaining! He continued to humor us in the last moments of his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Billy Brodersen; brother Norman Brodersen; his father and mother-in-law, George and Goldie Pomeroy; in-laws Lee and Arlene Pomeroy; Velma Winegarden, Clay Winegarden, Calvin Remillard, Glen and Jean Brodale; step grandson Tim Johnson, and nephew Dale Pomeroy.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife Joyce; son Ron (Karen) Brodersen of Ayrshire; Randy Brodersen of Spirit Lake; Becky (Marv) Johnson of Rockwell; Shayne (Mary) Brodersen of Mallard; seven grandchildren, Cari Ann Wolfson of Edina, MN; Sara (Adam) Collins of Chicago, IL; Lora (Jose) Fernandez of Miami, FL; step-granddaughter Natalie Ferguson of Sioux Falls, SD; Alex Brodersen of Grand Junction, CO; Trevis Johnson of Cedar Falls; Brittini Johnson of Ankeny; 10 great-grandchildren, Andrew, Benjamin, and Carter Wolfson; Zachary, Claire, and baby-on-the-way Collins; Austin, Justin, and step-great-granddaughter Paige Fernandez; step-grandchildren A.J. and Annabelle Boushee; sisters-in-law Marcella Brodersen, Lois Brodersen, and Gail Marshall; brother-in-law George Pomeroy.
