Donate One Hour To ‘Feed Just One’

Dear Citizens of Palo Alto County:

I'm writing to tell you what happened to us one year ago when we went to the "Feed Just One" at the fair grounds. Our shift ran from 8-9 a.m. to help make food packages to prevent starvation in third world countries.

Across from me was Irene Banwart Goff, who was in her late 80s. She was seated across the table from me weighing bags, and when our shift was over and there were no replacements for us, we decided to stay for the next shift. They brought her a cup of coffee, and we kept weighing and packaging.

To make a long story short, she stayed for all four shifts because we had no volunteers to take our places. I think she shamed most of the other volunteers at our table to stay also, being over 80-something by continuing to stay and work.

My point is, there should be volunteers coming out of the woodwork from age 10 through 100 years old who could give one hour or more to fight starvation.

If you people only realized what you have in this country; no matter your age; if you're in a wheelchair or have other handicaps could you consider donating one hour to keep the less fortunate from starving? You kids could also use this for community service.

Please call Lois Stanley 852-2692 ( or Bonnie Whitney (852-9160 ( to sign up, and call a friend to join you! We could make it fun and help the starving! Please call one of them when you read this.

Thank you.
