Emmetsburg News

To The Editor:

What a great weekend to be a part of as we gathered Saturday morning at the Fairgrounds to bag around 90,000 bags of food to be shipped to the hungry around the World. So many people volunteered their Saturday morning for this annual event of "Then Feed Just One."

Thank you - A Success!

The next day, Sunday afternoon and evening, another community volunteer event was held at the VFW. A new project, just recently started in Emmetsburg is "Feed Our Kids Emmetsburg." An auction of donated items was part of this event. Thanks to the auctioneers who donated their time and talents.

Thank you - A Success!

I was disappointed tho, when I realized that the bar was open (on a Sunday) and the auctioneer was drinking beer for all to see (yes, even the kids, at this kids fund raiser event.)

I wonder why that beverage was needed when the youth were serving water, O.J. and coffee?

The opportunity was there to set a good example for the kids, and I don't think that was setting a good example!

As I?listened to the news at 5 a.m. the next morning (Monday) I?listened to the story of a seven year old boy from Mass. who had found a check book with $8,000 cash in it on a playground. The owner was located and the cash was returned and the boy received a $100 reward. When the boy was asked why he didn't keep the money he said: "my parents have always set a good example for me and I always remember "The Golden Rule" and he knew the words:?"Do unto others what you would want them to do to you" Matthew 7:12.

The boy said "I knew it wasn't mine to keep because of my parents good example."

We all learn by example.

Concerned,
