Early Memories Of PACHS

September 15, 2015
Emmetsburg News

To the Editor:

I remember when my sister was in the Emmetsburg Hospital for an appendectomy in 1963. She was a senior in high school and I was two years younger.

I went to the hospital to visit her and they were so crowded that there were patients in beds in the hallway. I told her I was not having my appendix out until they built the new hospital. Two years later I got sick on Thanksgiving weekend and had my appendix out the following Monday. The new hospital had been open for less than one month!
