Candidate Offers Letter of Introduction

Emmetsburg News

To the editor:

I would like an opportunity to introduce myself to the community. Myname is Ed Meyer and I was recently

elected to the Emmetsburg Community School District board. I was asked if I would consider running for

the board as a write-in candidate just a few short days ago. While I am proud of our schools and all they have accomplished,

I felt I could benefit the schools and the community as well.

I grew up in a family of educators. My mother and father were teachers and my father became an administrator

in the communities I grew up in. I met my wife at the University of Northern Iowa and 15 years ago we

settled in Emmetsburg. We have two boys who were born in the Emmetsburg Hospital. We attend and support

the Catholic church and school. I volunteer my time at Mainstreet Community Theatre. I am an Eagle Scout and

still involved in Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts. I love our lake, we swim, canoe, kayak, as well as bike or walk

around it nearly every day. We attend the E-Hawk athletics activities and enjoy the performing arts programs.

We may still be considered new to town, but my family and I are committed to Emmetsburg.

I believe we are approaching a transformation in the way we will provide an education to our children. Our population

continues to decrease, technology is rapidly changing, school districts across the state find themselves in financial trouble, and I want

our school to be positioned to provide the best possible educational experience in a financially responsible manner

and remain viable for future generations. I also believe our human capital is just as important as our physical

structures and technology in providing an education and will do my best to make sure our students have

the resources they need to succeed.

Thank you for the opportunity to serve my community. I look forward to working with the other board members,

the citizens in our district, the staff and the administration at the Emmetsburg Community Schools.
