For generations families have been gathering for the annual Graettinger Labor Day celebration. This weekend will be no different, especially for the Don and Norma Berven family. Don and Norma were selected earlier this summer to be the Grand Marshall's of the Labor Day parade which will take place on Monday, September 1.
"It is an honor to be selected", said Don when asked about the distinction.
Don and Norma have been part of the Graettinger community since 1973. They are proud to say their children, graduates of the Graettinger school district, made the decision to remain in the area. Watching their grandchildren participate in school activities while they also attended school in Graettinger was a joy for the couple.

Over the years, both Don and Norma have been very active in the community. The Graettinger Community Club, the organization responsible for the planning of the Labor Day celebration, has been one of the groups that benefited from the Berven's volunteering spirit.
Lifelong farmers, Don and Norma now live in Graettinger during the growing season and spend the balance of the year about five months at their home in Arizona.
The couple, who will celebrate their 58th wedding anniversary on September 15, were quick say they have thoroughly enjoyed the people of Graettinger and are looking forward to all the activities planned for the Labor Day weekend.
