Emerald Oaks To Celebrate National Assisted Living Week

Emerald Oaks has many activities planned to celebrate National Assisted Living Week that begins on Sept. 7 to 13. This year's theme is "The Magic of Music".

'They will be kicking off this week with a free barbeque on Sept. 4, from 5 to 7 p.m. Featured music during the barbeque will be the "Travelin' Music Memories" from Des Moines who will be performing from 5:00 6:00 p.m. and the West Benders will perform from 6:00 7:00 p.m. The Cattlemen's Association will be grilling for us also. Please join us for the great food and fun entertainment!

On Friday, Sept. 5, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., Emerald Oaks will be hosting Chamber Coffee with a chance to win a prize giveaway from Saxton's Greenhouse.

On Monday, Sept. 8, "Music Bingo" is planned as the activity at 2 p.m., the movie "The Sound of Music" will be playing. On Wednesday, Sept. 10, at 2:30 p.m., Aliza Woodford and Thomas Woodford will be sharing their musical talents on the violin and piano. On Thursday evening, Sept. 11, we have planned a Dinner Theatre for the tenants. Limousine rides will be given, steaks cooked on the grill, and "The Classic Act Quartet" will be performing for them. We are even going to roll out the red carpet! On Friday, Sept. 12, team leaders and Emerald Oaks staff will be having coffee and rolls at 9:30 a.m. with the tenants to show our appreciation to them for making Emerald Oaks their home.

Also during the week, there will be special goodies for the tea time with recipes provided from the tenants.

In recognition of National Assisted Living Week, our Mayor of Emmetsburg has made the following decree:

National Assisted Living Week 2014

"The Magic of Music"

WHEREAS, the number of elderly and Americans with disabilities is dramatically increasing;

WHEREAS, assisted living is a long-term care service that fosters choice, dignity, independence and autonomy in our elderly nationwide;

WHEREAS, the National Center for Assisted Living proudly created National Assisted Living Week to demonstrate how much we care for our residents and appreciate the staff members that deliver care every day;

WHEREAS, the theme of National Assisted Living Week 201 "The Magic of Music" highlights the healing effect music can have on individuals.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Mayor Myrna Heddinger, do hereby proclaim the week of September 7 13, 2014 as National Assisted Living Week in Emmetsburg, Iowa. I urge all citizens to visit friends and loved ones who reside at these communities and to learn more about how assisted living services benefit our communities.
