Ruth M. Harson 1926-2014

Funeral service for Ruth Harson of Emmetsburg will be 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 22, at the First United Methodist Church in Emmetsburg. Burial is in Evergreen Cemetery.

The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. today, Thursday, Aug. 21, at the Joyce Funeral Home in Emmetsburg.

Ruth Marjorie Bramley was born Nov. 13, 1926 near Dow City, the daughter of Joe and Ollie (Fox) Bramley. She was a graduate of Cylinder High School, and following her education, she worked at the Ben Franklin Store in Emmetsburg.

On Dec. 21, 1947, Ruth was united in marriage to Robert Harson at the United Methodist Church parsonage in Emmetsburg.

Together, they farmed and raised their four children. Ruth was a farmer and homemaker, and worked part-time at the dime store during the Christmas Season. She enjoyed sewing, embroidery and crocheting. She would often pass time tending to her garden, watching birds, collecting dolls and taking Sunday drives to check the crops. Ruth loved her family, and she especially enjoyed spending time with all of her grandchildren.

Ruth was a member of the First United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School. When her children were young, she was a Girl Scout Leader, and later in life, she spent time volunteering at the Multipurpose Senior Center. Ruth was also past president and held several other offices at Farm Bureau.

On Monday, Aug. 18, 2014, Ruth passed away at the Palo Alto County Hospital. She was 87.

Left to cherish her memory are her children and their families: Pauline Parish (Tom) of Henning, MN, Gail Hill of Titonka, Dennis Harson (Jill) of Emmetsburg and Connie Flynn (Kenneth) of Hartley; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Vida Krough of Emmetsburg and Charlotte Morey (Herbert) of West Bend; three brothers: Jim Bramley (Maggie) of Cylinder, Frank Bramley of Sioux City and Ronnie Bramley of Mason City; brothers and sisters-in-law: Marion Morgan, Lowene Heaverlo, Janice Christensen, Carol Douglas, Nancy Glackin and Don Harson (Virginia).

Ruth was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, Robert; two grandsons: Kyle Parish and Jeff Harson; two brothers: Richard and Gene Bramley; and her sister: Sally Morgan.
