Special Election Absentee Ballots Now Available

Absentee ballots are now available at the Palo Alto County Auditor's Office for the Iowa Lakes Community College special election, which will take place on Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2014.

Persons who are disabled or are going to be absent on election day may vote an absentee ballot at the County Auditor's Office, or may request an absentee ballot through the mail. Requests by mail must be on the Official Absentee Ballot Request Form, which is available at the County Auditor's Office. The County Auditor's Office is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The last day to pre-register to vote in the special election will be Friday, Aug. 29 at 5 p.m. If you have moved, please call the Auditor's Office at 712-852-2924 to get your address changed and to avoid waiting in line at the polls.

The polls for the Special Election will be open on Tuesday, Sept.9, 2014, from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The Special Election is asking the voters of Merged Area III to authorize the trustees to "annually certify for levy of a tax on the taxable property in Merged Area III at a rate of six cents ($.06) per $1,000 of assessed valuation for a period of ten (10) consecutive years, beginning with the tax levy to be made for collection in the fiscal year July 1, 2015 to June 30, 2025, said tax to be used for program sharing between community colleges, the purchase of instructional equipment or for any other purpose now or hereafter authorized by law,"

Voters living in the Graettinger-Terril Community School District will cast their ballots at the Graettinger Public Library in Graettinger.

Voters living in the Emmetsburg Community School District will cast their ballots at the Palo Alto County Election Center, 1302 Broadway, in Emmetsburg.

Voters living in the Ruthven- Ayrshire Community School District will cast their ballots at the Ruthven Social Center in Ruthven.

Voters in the West Bend-Mallard Community School District will cast their ballots at the West Bend Public Library in West Bend.

Voters unsure of their polling place should contact the Palo Alto County Auditor's Office for the correct information.
