Cyclist Dies On Monday’s RAGBRAI Segment

GRAETTINGER For the first time since 2010, a participant in the Des Moines Register's Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa had died while participating in the event. Officials of RAGBRAI announced on Tuesday that 63-year-old Tom Teesdale of West Branch, died Monday.while riding due to a medical condition.

Ride officials say the medical incident occurred on the ride's route between Terril and Graettinger on Monday morning, July 21. Teesdale was treated at the scene by medical personnel and transported to the Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg by ambulance, where he later died.

According to The Des Moines Register, Teesdale owned and operated a business where he sold custom bicycles.

Approximately 8,500 bicyclists, in addition to countless support staff are participating in the weeklong trip across Iowa.
