POCAHONTAS -- Funeral service for Gerald F. Ruddy of Pocahontas was held Saturday, July 12, at the Resurrection of Our Lord Catholic Church in Pocahontas. The Rev. Fr. Paul Bormann officiated.
Burial was in St. John's Cemetery in Emmetsburg. Powers Funeral Home in Pocahontas was in charge of arrangements.
Gerald Francis Ruddy was born June 9, 1930 in Emmetsburg. He was the son of John "Jack" and Eileen (Reagan) Ruddy. He was educated at Emmetsburg Catholic Schools. He served in the U.S. Army from 1948 to 1952 during the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Japan.
On May 16, 1953, Gerald married Joann Douglas in Emmetsburg. The couple lived in Emmetsburg until 1978, when they moved to Pocahontas. Jerry worked several jobs before being employed at E.R. Buske Mfg. for 25 years, retiring in 1995.
Jerry was a member of the Resurrection of Our Lord Catholic Church. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, fishing and working on his house.
Gerald Ruddy passed away on Tuesday, July 8, 2014, at the Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge. He was 84.
Survivors include his sons, Steve (Mary Kapustka) Ruddy of Fort Dodge, J. Mark (Peg) Ruddy of Pocahontas and Doug (Coleen) Ruddy of Emmetsburg; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his brothers, Pat Ruddy and Eddie (Ann) Ruddy, all of Ottumwa, and Vic (Karen) Ruddy of Emmetsburg.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Joann, in May of 2013; three brothers and two sisters.
