In their opening remarks to the board, Superintendents Gary Richardson and Amanda Schmidt both expressed their excitement about the upcoming school year in Emmetsburg.

"It really is a privilege to be here and working in Emmetsburg,"?Richardson said. "And, with Amanda, I think it is going to go very well. It's not going to be perfect, but we will come up with answers to questions and issues as we go."

"I'm very happy to be back,"?Schmidt said, referring to her start as an educator in the district eight years earlier. " We certainly have changed and grown in eight years and I'm excited to do the work to keep growing. I'm looking forward to working with Gary , along with Mike, Tracie and Joe for the coming year."

With search consultant Jeff Herzberg acting as facilitator, the board and the new administrators worked on developing goals for the coming year.. Better all-around communication was identified as one of the keys areas of emphasis for the coming year.

A better understanding of the chain of command was also discussed, along with understanding of duties.

Richardson explained he felt his duties would be primarily to work with District Business Manager Lisa Chapman on the budgets and finances for the district, along with negotiations, board relations, staffings, hirings, legislative issues. Richardson also noted that networking with other districts and meeting with the district's administrative team weekly would be his primary focus.

"I will be working with the building principals and staff, working on Professional Development, working with the District Leadership Team and Building Leadership Teams, and the one-to-one program vision and implementation,"?Schmidt said. "I will work with the educational leadership for the district, and since I'm closest, I'll be making the snow day determinations. I'm sure things will come up, but we'll deal with them as they do come up."
