A game against the Midgets of Estherville Lincoln Central on Wednesday night turned into a rough outing for Emmetsburg's E-Hawks on the diamond. The E-Hawks struggled offensively in an 11-0 loss to Estherville Lincoln Central.
A big first inning for the Midgets would set the tone for the entire game, as Estherville Lincoln Central would start out of the box red-hot. Sending 11 batters to the plate in the top of the first, Estherville Lincoln Central would score eight runs in their at-bat before Emmetsburg was able to get the third out and come up to bat.
Emmetsburg would get a leadoff single from Jacob Kibbie, but he was picked off before Aaron Bird singled but was left stranded to end the inning.
With the 8-0 lead in the top of the second, the Midgets would leave two runners stranded when their at-bat ended. The E-Hawks would leave Wes Schultes waiting at second when their half of the inning ended.
The two teams traded outs in the third inning and in the top of he fourth, Estherville Lincoln Central would score three runs in the at-bat to up their lead to 11-0. In the bottom of the fourth, Emmetsburg would leave Greg Wesley and Zach Anderson stranded on the bases.
The Midgets would be retired in order in the top of the fifth inning, but Emmetsburg would get a leadoff single from Joe Jackson in the bottom of the fifth before they were retired, leaving Jackson waiting at second base to end the game on the 10-run rule.
For the E-Hawks, Luke Jackson pitched four innings, giving up 11 runs, three earned, off 10 hits with three strikeouts. Greg Wesley would relive for the final inning, earning a pair of strikeouts.
Emmetsburg's offense consisted of base hits from Greg Wesley, Jacob Kibbie, Aaron Bird and Joe Jackson.
The loss dropped theE-mark Hawks to a 4-6 mark in the Lakes Conference as the regular season winds down, and a 13-10 record overall on the season.
