E-Hawk Boys Of Summer Outlast Sioux Central

Emmetsburg's E-Hawks battled a determined Sioux Central ball club on Tuesday night but held on to take a 4-3 win in non-conference play. The win improves the E-Hawks to 11-8 overall on the season.

After Sioux Central stranded three runners in the first, Emmetsburg would take the early lead when Dillon VanOosbree scored after the bases were loaded and Zach Anderson was hit by a pitch. However, the E-Hawks would leave the bags juiced when the inning ended with the 1-0 lead.

The Rebels got a hit but left their runner stranded in the second while the E-Hawks went down in order. The third saw Sioux Central go down in order after a runner was picked off. Emmetsburg would add two runs to their total in the bottom of the third as Luke Jackson and Greg Wesley would come over the plate to give the E-Hawks a 3-0 advantage.

The two squads would both strand runners in fourth inning, but in the top of the fifth, Sioux Central came to life with two outs and managed to push three runs over the plate, using three singles and a double, along with a pair of throws to tie the game up at 3-3.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Emmetsburg would get a leadoff double from Greg Wesley, but two outs would follow before Jacob Kibbie reached on an error that moved Wesley to third base. A single from Joe Jackson would allow Wesley to score the go-ahead run before the inning ended with Emmetsburg clinging t o the 4-3 lead.

Sioux Central would leave a runner waiting at third in the top of the sixth inning, but Emmetsburg would follow suit in their half of the sixth, leaving Dillon VanOosbree looking for a way home.

In the top of the seventh Inning, pitcher Luke Jackson made quick work of the Rebels, retiring them in order to preserve the 4-3 win for the E-Hawks.

Luke Jackson would go all seven innings to record the win on the hill for Emmetsburg, as he gave up three runs, two earned, off seven hits, with two walks and seven strikeouts in the contest.

Emmetsburg's offense was led by Greg Wesley with a double and two singles, while Luke Jackson added a double and Joe Jackson and Max Dunlap both came away with base hits in the winning effort.

The E-Hawk Boys of Summer continued their Lakes Conference play Wednesday night with a matchup at Western Christian in Hull and will close out their week on Friday with a game against South O'Brien at Paullina.
