No Wake Speed On South Bay, Five Island Lake

June 24, 2014
Emmetsburg News

As a result of recent heavy rainfall, the level of Five Island Lake has risen. The high water levels pose a significant threat to shoreline erosion and damage to property in the south area of Five Island Lake.

In consultation with law enforcement and the City of Emmetsburg, and in response to requests, the City of Emmetsburg has determined that there should be a declaration of an emergency slow - no-wake zone on the south bay area of Five Island Lake until water levels recede.

The City of Emmetsburg hereby declares, effective immediately, the surface area on the south bay of Five Island Lake to be a slow - no-wake zone. Slow - no-wake speed is defined as the minimum speed at which motorized watercraft is able to move and maintain steerage.

Mayor Heddinger signed the Declaration of Emergency Slow - No-Wake Zone on Five Island Lake last Thursday, June 19.
