Emmetsburg's Lady E-Hawks fell to Estherville Lincoln Central by a 10-5 final tally Friday night in Estherville. The loss drops the Lady E-Hawks to 1-4 in the Lakes Conference.
The two clubs would open up in a defensive battle, as the first three innings on Friday night.
Emmetsburg would strand five runners in the first three innings and left two on base in the top of the fourth. ELC?would leave an equal number but in the bottom of the fifth, four errors by the Emmetsburg defense, coupled with a pair of base hits, a walk and a sacrifice would send five runs over the plate to give the Midgets a 5-0 lead when the inning ended after sending 11 batters to the plate.
In the top of the fifth inning, Emmetsburg went down two outs, but got a walk from Michaela Rehm, only to leave her stranded. Estherville Lincoln Cental would get a pair of base hits in their half of the inning and pushed a run over the plate to increase their lead to 6-0.
But Emmetsburg tried to claw their way back into the game in the top of the sixth, as Kate Jackson led off with a walk and Bailee Garrelts singled. An error put Hali Noll on base and an error put Alexa Naig on base and scored Jackson's run.
After a fly out, a walk of Jenna Chapman scored Courtesy runner Natalie Kliegl before an error put Tegan Olson on base and scored Pinch Runner Sarah Simington. A sacrifice fly by Michaela Rehm scored Naig before the at-bat ended, making the score 6-4.
ELC?would answer with four runs in their half of the sixth, using three errors, a double and single to plate their runs for a 10-4 lead going into the seventh inning.
Emmetsburg would get a run from Natalie Kliegl after an error and single, but Hali Noll and Ashley Overberg would be left waiting when the game ended.
Ashton Connelly took the loss, giving up 10 runs, three earned, off 10 hits with nine strikeouts and two walks. Emmetsburg got two hits from Ashley Overberg, while Tegan Olson, Michaela Rehm, Ashton Connelly, Bailee Garrelts and Hali Noll all had hits.
