Relay for Life will be held this Friday, June 20. Committee members, led by chair person Kristi Tonderum, are putting the final touches on the afternoon/evening fund raising event.
Teams will set up camp on the Courthouse Square in Emmetsburg at 12 noon Friday. The public is encouraged to spend part of the day or all of the day at this fund raising effort for the fight against cancer.
The welcome and introductions will be given at noon Friday. Throughout the afternoon, there will be games and entertainment as teams walk the path around on the Courthouse Square.
"We will have face painting, inflatables, the National Guard Rock Climbing Wall and local entertainment throughout the day," said Kristi Tonderum. "There will also be themed walks for the teams."
Two hours of entertainment begins with a performance by Emmetsburg High School Dance Team at 12:30 p.m.
Vocal performances on stage will feature Hillary Pico, Kayla Joyce, Kiersten Duhn, Tatum Iverson, Kylie Iverson (St. Pat's Royalty) and Mattie Dooley (St. Pat's Royalty), among others.

A Lighted Tribute
A special part of Relay for Life of Palo Alto County is the Luminary Ceremony at dusk. Candles inside of luminary bags will illuminate the walking path. Each bag will carry a message of remembrance, a prayer of thanks or words of hope.
Luminaries can be purchased in advance by contacting Jodi Leuer, a member of the Relay for Life event team. All proceeds from luminary sales go to the American Cancer Society to be used for research, education, advocacy and patient services. A suggested donation of $10 is requested, but any donation is welcome.
Order luminaries in advance and include the following information:
"In Honor of" or "In Memory of" (name of person).
Message to be printed on the luminary.
Do you want your name on the Luminary?
Donor's name, address, city, state, zip and phone number are requested.

Luminaries will also be available on Relay for Life Day on the Courthouse Square.
Games on the Courthouse Square are new this year and include:?water balloon toss, egg on a spoon race, three-legged race and even a hula hoop contest. The games begin at 2:30 p.m.
Teams will take part in a Frozen T-Shirt Contest. See which team can get their shirt "unfrozen" first. The fun begins at 4 p.m.
And then there is the Cancer Facts Scavenger Hunt at 5 p.m. Participants will be given a list of questions and they will have to search the Courthouse Square for signs that will give them the answers.
Live music with Keiffer and Scott will begin at 6 p.m. and continue throughout the evening.
Opening Ceremony 6 p.m.
Deb Walsh will be emcee for the Opening Ceremony at 6:30 p.m. with the National Anthem and members of V.F.W. Post #2295 conducting the flag ceremony.
The Team of Hope will lead the Survivor Lap at 7 p.m. Members of the Team of Hope are?Pam Peton, Glenda Bleckwenn and Brenda Alesch.
Teams will participate in Relay Poker during the evening. As team members walk the track, they will collect cards and try to form the winning poker hand.
Luminaries will line the track on the Courthouse Square. The Luminary Ceremony begins at 9 p.m.
Photos from Relay for Life 2014 will be shown on the big screen at 9:30 p.m.
The Final Lap begins at 9:45 p.m. and the closing Ceremony is at 10 p.m.
The public is invited to participate in this team event to fight cancer.
