The opening pair of Lakes Conference games for Emmetsburg turned into a pair of tough road losses as the E-Hawks fell to Spencer on Wednesday and LeMars on Friday night. The losses put Emmetsburg at 0-2 in the Lakes and 3-4 overall.
Starting the Lakes campaign at Spencer on Wednesday, the E-Hawks would struggle to get the offense going, as Spencer would take a 2-0 lead at the end of the first inning. The E-Hawks would go down in order in the second and finally got base runners in the top of the third, only to leave the runners stranded.
The E-Hawks played some good defense after the first inning, turning Spencer away in both the second and third innings to keep the game within reach.

But try as the might, Emmetsburg couldn't get the offense to fire, leaving Greg Wesley on base in the top of the fourth, but had the defense stoked up, shutting the Tigers down in order in the bottom of the fourth.
Emmetsburg stranded Aaron Bird in the top of the fifth after a base hit, and in the bottom of the inning, Spencer tacked on an insurance run for a 3-0 lead.
The E-Hawks erased the goose-egg in the top of the sixth, when courtesy runner Wes Schultes would score a run for a 3-1 score. Spencer would strand a runner in their half of the sixth, but Emmetsburg went down in order to end the game in the top of the seventh by the 3-1 score.
Dillon VanOosbree was tagged for the loss, going six frame and giving up three runs, one earned, off two hits with four strikeouts and a walk. Emmetsburg got an RBI single from Greg Wesley and hits from VanOosbree and Aaron Bird as well.
Taking to the road for the third night in a row on Friday, Emmetsburg made the long trip to LeMars, but would come up one run short in an 8-7 loss to the Bulldogs.
The E-Hawks would go down in order to open the game on Friday, and with Nick Chapman on the hill, the E-Hawks settled in for some defense, only to see LeMars push three runs over the plate in the bottom of the first for a 3-0 lead. In the second, the E-Hawks would put two runners on base, only to leave them stranded. Lemars would strand three runners in their half of the inning to retain their 3-0 lead to start the third.
Chapman led off with a single in the third and courtesy runner Grant Dietering would be picked off, but a pair of walks and an error would allow Max Dunlap to plate a run before Dillon VanOosbree scored off a passed ball.
The E-Hawks weren't done, as Luke Jackson would come home on a fielders' choice before Greg Wesley scored with two outs, and Joe Jackson would also come home for a 5-3 lead before the E-Hawks were retired.
The outburst stunned the Bulldogs, who went down in order in the bottom of the third, leaving Emmetsburg with the 5-3 lead to start the fourth frame.
The E-Hawks would strand VanOosbree and Luke Jackson on base though, to end their half of the fourth. However, Emmetsburg's defense made up for it and retired LeMars in order.
In the top of the fifth, Jake Kibbie would be left waiting as Emmetsburg went down, but the Bulldogs would leave two runners waiting.
The E-Hawks opened the sixth going down in order. LeMars would load the bases before two runs were walked in and a third run scored off a base hit and a fourth run scored off a throw.
A pitching change for Emmetsburg brought Joe Jackson to the hill, where he got two outs before a run scored off a wild pitch before the side was retired.
Now trailing 8-5 to start the seventh, Emmetsburg got Luke Jackson and Greg Wesley on base off a walk and base hit. Joe Jackson struck out, but the duo advanced to scoring position. Zach Anderson issued a sacrifice to score Jackson, and after Jake Kibbie was walked, a passed ball allowed Wesley to score, cutting the deficit to 8-7. But, with Kibbie waiting at second, Aaron Bird flew out to end the game.
Nick Chapman would take the loss, going five innings and giving up eight runs, all earned, off five hits, with eight walks and three strikeouts. Joe Jackson thre one inning and gave up one walk with one strikeout.
For the E-Hawks, Zach Anderson, Jake Kibbie and Joe Jackson all had RBI's with Greg Wesley getting two hits, while Dillon VanOosbree, Kibbie, Nick Chapman and Zach Anderson all had hits.
