After losing one game last week to weather, Emmetsburg's Lady E-Hawks came up short in their Lakes Conference opener on Wednesday, but rebounded for a win on Thursday. The Lady E-Hawks improve to 4-1 overall and 0-1 in league play as they start a busy week on the diamond.
A seven-day layoff from play hampered the Lady E-Hawks on Wednesday night at Spencer, as Emmetsburg would come up with eight hits, but only plated three runs in the contest. Spencer would take an early 2-0 lead at the end of the first inning and added a run in the second for a 3-0 advantage as Emmetsburg would leave Tegan Olson on base in the first after a base hit and Kate Jackson in a similar predicament in the second.
In the fhird, the Lady E-Hawks left Jenna Chapman and Olson in scoring position, but retired Spencer in order to end the inning.

Ashton Connelly would get a single in the top of the fourth, but courtesy runner Bailey Naig was stranded. Spencer would score a run in the bottom of the fourth off a base hit to increase their lead to 4-0.
After Emmetsburg went down in order in the fifth, the Tigers added their final run in the bottom of the fifth off a double and a base hit.
But Emmetsburg refused to quit, and got a run from Michaela Rehm in the top of the sixth off a sacrifice by Kate Jackson.
Spencer would strand a runner in the bottom of the sixth, and trailing 5-1 to start the seventh, Emmetsburg gave it one last try.
Sarah Simington led off with a single and would score off a fielders' choice. Alexa Naig would walk and came around to score off a sacrifice by Rehm, but the at-bat ended with Chapman and Olson waiting for the 5-3 final.
Ashton Connelly took the loss, going six inning and giving up five runs, four earned, off eight hits. with three walks and three strikeouts.
Michaela Rehm had a double, while Tegan Olson and Ashton Connelly had two hits each and Kate Jackson and Sarah Simington both had hits.
Traveling to Peterson on Thursday, Emmetsburg claimed a 10-1 win over Sioux Central to improve to 4-1 on the season.
It took Emmetsburg three innings to get the offense on track in the contest, as they stranded runners in the first and second inning, while retiring Sioux Central in order in both frames.
In the top of the third, the Lady E-Hawks went down two outs, but got a single from Tegan Olson before Michaela Rehm got on base off a dropped fly ball. A single by Ashton Connelly scored Olson, and Rehm would plate her run before the side was retired.
The Rebels would go down in order in the bottom of the third and Emmetsburg would strand a runner in the top of the fourth. Sioux Central would get a run back in the bottom of the frame off a pair of singles to cut the lead to 2-1 to start the fifth inning.
Emmetsburg cut loose in the top of the fifth, as they would plate runs from Tegan Olson, Michaela Rehm, Ashton Connelly and Bailee Garrelts during the inning, using just two hits, a walk and a fielders' choice to do the damage and take the 6-1 advantage.
Sioux Central would leave a runner waiting at second in their half of the inning in the face of solid defense by the Lady E-Hawks.
To open the sixth inning, Emmetsburg led off with Alexa Naig drawing a walk and being followed by Sarah Simington with a base hit. a triple from Jenna Chapman scored the two runs and Chapman came home on a sacrifice by Tegan Olson. with one out, Michaela Rehm and Ashton Connelly both rapped out singles before Kate Jackson was walked, but a fielders choice on Bailee Garrelts' at-bat took Rehm out at third before the side was retired.
Emmetsburg put forth another good defensive effort, allowing just a walk and an error in the bottom of the sixth.
Holding a 9-1 lead in the top of the seventh, the Lady E-Hawks would go down two outs before Jenna Chapman singled and came around to score off a double by Tegan Olson, but Chapman was put out trying to stretch the hit to a triple. Sioux Central would get a final walk but no more to fall by the 10-1 score.
Ashton Connelly got the win, as she went seven innings and gave up one earned run off two hits with seven strikeouts and two walks.
Jenna Chapman had a triple and hit, while Tegan Olson had a double and single. Ashton Connelly had three hits and Sarah Simington, Michaela Rehm and Bailee Garrelts all added singles to the winning effort.
Emmetsburg will travel to LeMars tonight (Tuesday) and then to Cherokee on Wednesday before traveling to Estherville Lincoln Central on Friday night.
