Vendor Information Meeting June 12

June 10, 2014
Emmetsburg News

1. What or who is a Vendor for RAGBRAI's overnight stay in Emmetsburg?

Anyone selling food or other goods and services on July 21 and July 22 inside the city limits.

2. What do I need to be a Vendor?

A. A vendor permit (The permit application is online at

B. A food license (If you are selling food). Go to Siouxland District Health Department website for application.

C. Proof of insurance ($1 million liability limit required).

3. Do existing businesses need to pay a Vendor Fee?

If you are selling at your normal location and providing your normal goods and services, you DO NOT need to pay a Vendor Fee. If you expand your business outside of your normal business location for the RAGBRAI overnight stay in Emmetsburg, you would be required to pay a Vendor Fee. (Stores can extend 3' from their buildings on the sidewalk). There will be a lot of pedestrian traffic so we need to keep room on the sidewalks for safety.

4. Besides the Vendor Application Requirements, are there any other rules for selling food?

YES!! All food vendors will be inspected by the Health Department inspector. The inspector travels with RAGBRAI and will be here all day and will inspect all vendors selling food. Anyone not in compliance, can be shut down and fined. (If you have any questions regarding the food stand requirements, go to Siouxland District Health Department website or call them at 712-279-6119).

5. What are the Vendor Fees used for?

The Vendor Fees help pay the expenses for RAGBRAI's overnight stay in Emmetsburg. For example:

A. Insurance

B. Showers

C. Portipots

D. Garbage Removal

E. Entertainment

F. Law Enforcement

G. Electrical Needs

6. Why are there so many rules and fees?

The RAGBRAI organizers have been doing this for 42 years and have come up with these rules and fees so that each city can put on a great event safely and without it costing the city money. The Health Department regulates the Vendors to be sure that all food is served safely and that no one gets ill from the food.

We are expecting over 20,000 riders plus others at this event. We need to make sure that they have a great experience here in Emmetsburg. This is an excellent opportunity for us to showcase our community.
