E-Hawks Claim In-County Win Over Wolverines

An in-county meeting between Emmetsburg and West Bend-Mallard/Gi-lmore City Bradgate on the baseball diamond resulted in a 6-3 win for the E-Hawks Monday evening in Emmetsburg.

The Wolverines would lead off the game with a single from Jordan Buhs, who would advance off a sacrifice by Jesse Zinnel. A base hit by Jason Zinnel moved Buhs to third before a fielders' choice on Brady Jenson's at-bat allowed Buhs to score. WBM/GCB would get base hits from Jack Banwart and Nolan (Bruce) Dahlhauser before the side was retired.

Emmetsburg came up and promptly reeled off four runs in the bottom of the first frame. Leadoff batter Dillon VanOosbree reached on a walk before Luke Jackson was walked and Greg Wesley was hit by a pitch to load the sacks. A single from Joe Jackson scored VanOosbree and Luke Jackson would also come home on a throw, beating out the tag at the plate.

Zach Anderson would single, which scored Wesley's run and after Jacob Kibbie was put out on a sacrifice that scored Joe Jackson, the E-Hawks would leave courtesy runner Wes Schultes waiting when they went down in order to end the inning with a 4-1 lead.

The Wolverines went down two quick outs on grounders, but Jeff Riesenberg singled and took second on an error before taking third on a wild pitch, but was left waiting when Jordan Buhs flied out.

The E-Hawks would go down quickly with Nick Chapman striking out, but VanOosbree drew a walk, but was put out in a double play by Nolan (Whitty) Dahlhauser at second, who threw to Jason Zinnel at first to get Luke Jackson to end the inning.

In the top of the third, Jesse Zinnel struck out, but Jason Zinnel singled, only to be put out when Brady Jenson hit a line drive to pitcher Luke Jackson, who whirled around and threw to Joe Jackson at first for the double play to end the at-bat.

Greg Wesley led off the bottom of the third for Emmetsburg with a fly ball and Joe Jackson flew out, but Zach Anderson singled. Courtesy runner Wes Schultes would be thrown out at second by the Wolverines to end the inning.

Still trailing 1-4 to start the fourth, the Wolverines got a walk for Jack Banwart before Nolan (Bruce) Dahlhauser grounded out. Nolan (Whitty) Dahlhauser would hit an infield fly for the second out as Banwart advanced to third, but Jeff Riesenberg struck out to end the inning.

The E-Hawks led off with Jacob Kibbie grounding out before Aaron Bird drew a walk. However, Bird would be caught stealing second before Max Dunlap struck out to end the inning.

To start the top of the fifth, the Wolverines opened again with the top of the order, as Jordan Buhs flew out and Jesse Zinnel hit a fly ball out. Jason Zinnel would single and Brady Jenson reached on an error before Jack Banwart also got on base off an error to load the bases.

Nolan (Bruce) Dahlhauser would single that allowed Jason Zinnel to plate his run, and Jenson would come home on a throw as Banwart took third, but Nolan (Whitty)?Dahlhauser would ground out to end the at-bat as the Wolverines had cut the deficit to 4-3.

Emmetsburg would go down two outs when Wes Schultes struck out and Dillon Vanoosbree flew out. Luke Jackson would single, only to be stranded when Greg Wesley struck out to end the fifth frame.

To open the sixth frame, the Wolverines, Cole Banwart struck out swinging before Jeff Riesenberg flew out to first base. Jordan Bush would draw a walk, but Jesse Zinnel ground out to end the at-bat

With a one-run lead, the E-Hawks opened the bottom of the sixth inning with Joe Jackson drawing a walk and Zach Anderson drilling a base hit. Jackson would be put out at second as he advanced off Anderson's hit, but Anderson moved to second on an error at first. Jacob Kibbie would get on base off an error as Anderson went to third, and after Aaron Bird flew out,

Anderson tagged and scored his run off the sacrifice as Kibbie moved to second. When Max Dunlap stepped up and pounded a double to left field, Kibbie raced home before Wes Schultes flew out to end the inning with a 6-3 lead.

Down to their final at-bat, the Wolverines led off with Jason Zinnel being put out on a grounder. Brady Jenson would strike out swinging before Jack Banwart flied out to Greg Wesley in left field to end the game with the E-Hawk win.

For Emmetsburg, Luke Jackson went the distance, earning the win as he gave up three runs, one earned, off nine hits with two walks and four strikeouts.

The Wolverines' Jordan Buhs was charged with the loss as he went six innings and surrendered six runs off six hits, all earned, with four walks and four strikeouts.

The E-Hawks got a double from Max Dunlap, while Zach Anderson had three base hits. Joe Jackson and Luke Jackson added the other two hits for Emmetsburg in the winning effort.

For the West Bend-Mallard/Gilmore City-Bradgate offense, Jason Zinnel led the effort with three hits while Nolan (Bruce) Dahlhauser added two hits. Jordan Buhs, Jack Banwart, Cole Banwart and Jeff Riesenberg also came away with hits in the effort.
