WEST?BEND - The softball season got off to a 1-2 start for the Lady Wolverines of West Bend-Mallard/Gilmore City-Bradgate last week. In the season opener on Tuesday, the Lady Wolverines fell to Sioux Central by a 13-6 score.
Lauren Link went 4-4 at the plate, while Lizzie Gehrt was 1-4 with a triple and two RBI's. Cassie Gearhart went 1-4 at the plate but added three RBI's and Rachel Wirtz would also go 1-4 at the plate and added an RBI to the effort.
Harrison Schmidt, Lauren Thatcher, Taylor Elbert and Taylor Fogarty would all go 1-4 at the plate and Ashley Schmidt would go 0-4 in the contest.
Taylor Fogarty took the loss as she tallied six strikeouts.
On Wednesday night, WBM/GCB took on South Cental Calhoun and fell in an 8-1 loss to the Titans.
Ashley Schmidt and Taylor Elbert led the effort as they both went 2-3 at the plate, while Cassie Gearhart and Laura Fehr both went 1-3 at the plate for the Lady Wolverines' only hits in the contest.
Taylor Fogarty was charged with the loss while earning five strikeouts.
The fortunes turned for the Lady Wolverines on Thursday night, as they came back to record their first win of the season with a 7-6 victory over Laurens Marathon.
For the Lady Wolverines,
Ashley Schmidt and Rachel Wirtz both went 2-4 at the plate and both hit doubles, while Lizzie Gehrt went 1-4 with a double as well.
Lauren Thatcher added a double while going 1-3 at the plate.
Cassie Gearhart went 2-4 in her batting appearances, while Taylor Elbert and Laura Fehr both went 1-3 and Harrison Schmidt went 1-4.
Taylor Fogarty earned her first win of the season in the circle as she picked up five strikeouts in the decision.
