The baseball season opened on a down note for Emmetsburg's E-Hawks Tuesday evening in a 9-3 loss to Bishop Garrigan. The E-Hawk Junior Varsity would earn a 2-1 victory in their contest against the Golden Bears.
The two clubs traded outs in the first inning, with Emmetsburg's Dillon VanOosbree getting the start on the hill and tallying a strikeout with good defensive support from his teammates. But, Bishop Garrigan's Reece Wadle would ring up three straight strikeouts to end the first frame.
In the second, Bishop Garrigan would go down one out after Jacob Kibbie made a great sliding catch in center field. The Golden Bears got a base runner off a single into left field, but left the runner stranded at second when the at-bat ended.

Emmetsburg would go down two outs off strikeouts, but Zach Anderson drew a walk, only to have his courtesy runner, Grant Deitering, stranded at first when the inning ended.
The Golden Bears would plate two runs in the top of the third off a pair of singles, a walk and an error to take a 2-0 lead, but Emmetsburg answered back in their half of the third.
The E-Hawks would go down two strikeouts to open the bottom of the fram, but Jacob Kibbie drew a walk and stole second before Dillon VanOosbree laced a double down the third base line that scored Kibbie. However, courtesy runner Wes Schultes would be left at second when Greg Wesley was called out on strikes to end the inning, with Emmetsburg trailing 2-1.
Bishop Garrigan would go down in order after a walk in the fourth, but Emmetsburg would take the lead with two runs after Joe Jackson got on base off an error and Luke Jackson got a single. Three straight walks would score the cousins before the Golden Bears got the outs to end the inning, with Emmetsburg now leading 3-2.
The game continued with Bishop Garrigan going down in order in the fifth and Emmetsburg stranding Luke Jackson after he got on base off an error.
In the sixth, the Golden Bears scored three runs off a pair of singles and some good baserunning to take 5-3 lead that they would not relinquish.
Emmetsburg got a leadoff walk from Aaron Bird in the bottom of the sixth, but left Bird waiting when the inning ended.
In the top of the seventh, Bishop Garrigan would plate four more runs off four walks and three passed balls for the 9-3 advantage. Emmetsburg's final at bat saw the E-Hawks go down two quick outs, but Joe Jackson got on base off an error to give the E-Hawks hope for a late rally, but a strikeout ended the contest with the 9-3 loss.
For Emmetsburg, Dillon VanOosbree was tagged for the loss in his six and a third innings on the hill. VanOosbree gave up seven runs, four earned, with four fits, four strikeouts and five walks. Luke Jackson relieved the final two-thirds of an inning and surrendered two runs with a strikeout and a walk.
The E-Hawks would get an RBI?double from Dillon VanOosbree, while Luke Jackson added a base hit to the effort.
Emmetsburg hosted Algona on Wednesday and travel to George on Friday to take on George-Little Rock.
