Bernadine Gappa 1912-2014

RUTHVEN -- Funeral service for Bernadine M. Gappa was held Sunday, May 25, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ruthven. Concelebrant was the Rev. Clem Currans.

Interment was in St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery, Whittemore. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Ruthven was in charge.

Bernadine Mary Gappa, daughter of William and Harriet (Kingery) Wiwi, was born May 16, 1912 in Effingham, IL. She received her education in Illinois schools.

In 1927 Bernadine was united in marriage to Charles Gappa at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Whittemore. To this union a daughter, Patricia was born.

In 1970 she began working at Stubb's Ranch Kitchen in Spencer. Bernadine was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Guild in Ruthven. She was a member of various card clubs and was an avid 500 player.

Bernadine passed away Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer, at the age of 102. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles in 1977; eight sisters, Ursala Loring, Alberta Hoadley, Rose Gillespie, Rebecca Staley, Beatrice Culling, Naomi Koppenhaver, Maureen Neihaus and Madonna Staras; one brother, Norbert Wiwi; son-in-law, Simon Sikora; grandson, Simon "Butch" Sikora; great grandson, Shane Sikora; and grandson-in-law, Quint Dyer.

She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Sikora of Spencer; five grandchildren, Cheryl Sikora of Ruthven, Diana (Allen) Meyer of Dickens, Kevin (Rhonda) Sikora of Spirit Lake, Ronald (Susan) Sikora of Ruthven, and Angela (Steve) Flint of Ruthven; 13 great grandchildren; 12 great-great grandchildren; granddaughter-in-law, Beth Sikora; several nieces and nephews.
