AMERY, WI -- Allen Michael Goodrum was born on Dec. 3, 1994 in La Crosse, WI and graduated from Amery High School in 2013. Allen passed away at age 19 in a motorcycle accident Friday, May 2, 2014 in Emmetsburg where he was attending school.
Allen lived in Hokah, MN and Tomah, WI before moving to Amery, WI in 2000. While attending Amery schools, he was a member of the cross country and track teams. Allen was also a member of Boy Scout troop 146 and was one of the contingents who went to Phillmont backpacking when he was 14 in 2009. He went on the Amery France trip with the other Amery students in 2012. He learned to surf and white water raft on a family trip to California.
Allen had a passion for motorcycles and was able to make his Sturgis Run last year with his brothers and Julie. Allen loved the outdoors and spending time at the family's cabin in Orr, MN where he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He caught his first "big" fish, a 30 inch walleye when he was 8 and he was one of the children invited to fish with Governor Doyle for the fishing opener in 2008. In the winter he enjoyed snowboarding, snowmobiling and of course ice fishing.
He named himself the family's official campfire builder and tender. Allen always started the evening bonfire and was last to come in at night. He enjoyed the quiet peacefulness of being in the woods and on the water. He loved life, skipping up the driveway as a kid, jumping into snow banks in his orange and brown snow pants and over staying his welcome in the college sauna were not uncommon activities.
Most recently, Allen was pursuing his passion for motorcycles by attending Iowa Lakes Community College in Emmetsburg where he earned a 4.0 grade point. In April, he competed in the Iowa Skills USA state competition placing 6th. He worked at Pizza Man in Amery while in high school. While in Iowa, he worked on campus in the school's motorcycle shop helping his instructors and fellow students where needed. His friends and instructors spoke very highly of Allen who was devoted to his work and friends. Most recently he was excited to start his On The Job training at a Honda dealership in Algona.
Allen was a very loyal friend to many and always cheerful and supportive to everyone. He will be deeply missed, and forever in the hearts of his family and friends. Allen was full of life, he loved to share it with his family, friends and the road.
He was preceded in death by his Grandmother Patricia Goodrum and Grandparents Roger and Dorothy Winans.
Allen is survived by his father and mother Mike Goodrum and Julie (Goodrum) Winans, his brother Jake Shovein and Anna and Matthew Goodrum, as well as many Goodrum family members.
