When two local businesses have a combined experience base of nearly 75 years of quality service in their respective markets, they must be doing something right. When those two entities join forces, the service improves even more.
Since 2007, Ryan and Tonya Berkland have operated Slash Point Sales and Service, a business dedicated to technology and serving the public with sales and service in all things computing.
Back in 1984, Mike Scott started Scott Technologies and Telecom in the basement of his home and his garage, installing telephone jacks and providing telecommunications service and sales.
A?NEW?BEGINNING - A new total technology one-stop business will open on Monday, May 5 in Emmetsburg, as Scott Technologies and Telecom and Slash Point Sales and Service join forces to offer the entire range of telecommunications, computer and data services. Combine these entrepreneurial spirits and effective Monday, May 5, Slash Point Sales and Service and Scott Technologies and Telecom will join forces to become one entity providing a wealth of services and products out of one location at 3746 450th Avenue, or Airport Road, in Emmetsburg.
"We're making this move to expand our knowledge, experience and service to better meet the needs of our customers, and also with an eye to keep up with future customer demands,"?explained Mike Scott.
"All of our customers will continue to receive all the services we offer, but just in a different location than the past," Ryan Berkland added. "Our customer services will not change in any way."
As technology continually evolves in today's society, so do the needs of individuals, government and business. With a wealth of past experience in service to all facets of society with telecommunications equipment, the addition of a full line of computer products and data services just makes sense, according to Scott.
"Bringing Ryan and Tonya onboard with us helps expand our product line to include equipment such as printers, servers, desktop and laptop computers and peripherals,"?Scott said. "Plus, bringing Ryan's experience in data networking and Information Technology, helps us to expand our offerings in the latest in digital communications and our video surveillance systems."
Another area where Berkland's expertise in data systems will benefit the operation will be in another STT?offering, building security and access systems, some of the newest technology being offered by the firm.
"The melding of these two forces coming together to share the strengths and benefits of our firms, well, it just made sense for us to do this," Scott said, along with Berkland.
Staffing for the operations will not change, and that is a testimony to the importance of maintaining the highest possible levels of customer service for the operation.
"Over the years, we've been blessed with the most phenomenal employees," noted Gen Scott, who worked many years alongside Mike in the office. "We've always been a small business, and our employees have been like a family all along. When you're like a family, that family has respect for each other and it all ties together. As a small business, you have to operate like a family unit, and that's what's worked for us over the years."
Along with Ryan Berkland's 15 years of experience in the computer field, Tonya brings years of experience in accounting to the operation. While any business can sell a computer, very few can provide a full service department to support sales like Slash Point Sales does.
"Unlike many large computer retailers, we service what we sell," stated Ryan. "It's a competitive advantage and it will continue to be a priority for us."
"These are exciting times in the industry,"?Scott noted. "by making this move, we are moving to the next level."
"We will continue to offer virus removal, security upgrades, and we will even be offering Data Assurance and Data Backup," Berkland noted, "But we will also be part of the service for Toshiba telephones, paging systems, business security access and video surveillance. We are going to be STT's IT Department."
The physical move to the Airport Road location will take place this weekend, but the joint operation will open on Monday, May 5. An Open House is planned for Friday, May 9, from 4 to 7 p.m. for the public to visit the new location.
In the interim, some re-arranging and remodeling has taken place at the STT?facility. Most notably, a new floor finish by Seal Rite, applied by Mike and Greg Egland, to provide a new look to compliment new display shelving for the Slash Point products.
"We're excited for the opportunity to expand to a much larger territory as well,"?Ryan Berkland noted. "STT is well known in Northwest Iowa and Southwest Minnesota, and we are looking forward to being able to offer our services to the area as well."
