Working Together to Plan for Emergencies

April 17, 2014
Emmetsburg News

Are YOU prepared to deal with the overwhelming destruction, chaos, and emotions, following a natural or man-made disaster? Where would you go, what do you need, what resources are available?

With limited federal funding and resources, partnership building is imperative. Emergency preparedness is shifting from general planning efforts to focused capabilities for a sustained response. The Palo Alto County Healthcare Coalition is designed to promote prepared and resilient communities for the people that live and work here.

Some businesses are required to have an Emergency Action Plan (EAP). These plans are useful but do not typically include critical information such as who will respond, what resources are available, how do we communicate (without cell phones), and how will we recover? These are just a few questions that need to be asked and answered as a coalition.

You may be the best musician in the world but if you don't practice with the band it's impossible to sound good.

The Palo Alto County Coalition invites you to attend an informational meeting to learn how you, your family, or your business can be involved in preparing, responding, and recovering, from a disaster.

Informational meetings will be Tuesday, April 22, with a session at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. The one hour meeting will be at the Smith Wellness Center in Emmetsburg in room 800. We ask that you attend one meeting and RSVP your time choice to Palo Alto County Community Health at 852-5419 or email Peg McNally at mcnallym@ The informational meeting will last approximately one hour. Learn how the Palo Alto County Healthcare Coalition can help you.
