Emmetsburg News
FATHER OF IOWA COMMUNITY COLLEGES -- Former Senator Jack Kibbie of Emmetsburg was recently recognized by education and community leaders for his work in setting up Iowa’s community colleges. The Education Commission of the States (ECS) bestows the most prestigious education award in the United States, the James Bryant Conant Award. Jack?Kibbie was nominated for the honor by Sen. Daryl Beall and MJ Dolan, on behalf of the Iowa Association of Community College Trustees. “Although Sen. Kibbie did not receive the award, I thought his nomination was so strong and eloquent and passionate that I?wanted him to smell the proverbial roses,” said Beall. “MJ?Dolan and I read portions of the nomination to Jack in the caucus.” Since 1965, Sen. Kibbie has been considered the ‘Father of Iowa Community Colleges’ because of his work with the legislation as well as his passion for the great contributions community college graduates have made to the economy.
