An informational event for young farmers in the area is set for Tuesday, April 8. The event is being sponsored by the Palo Alto County Extension Office.
The Young Farmers meeting will start at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 8, at the Extension Office, in Emmetsburg. The group begin the informational event with a car pool to West Bend to tour Skoglund Meats and Locker facilities.
Following the tour, the group will return to Emmetsburg and the Extension Office for a free meal at 6 p.m. The meal is being sponsored by the Palo Alto County Farm Bureau.
At 7 p.m., a program for Beginning and Young Livestock Producers will be offered in the Extension Office. Beth Doran, Beef Specialist and Dave Stender, Swine Specialist, along with Colin Johnson, all of the Iowa State University Extension Staff, will discuss producer resources and lead a discussion on issues facing the livestock industry in today's society.
The purpose of the meeting is to establish a local peer group and support network for beginning farmers in Palo Alto and surrounding counties.
