CEDAR RAPIDS -- Emerson Hough died at the age of 87 on March 6, 2014 at Mercy Hospital from a sudden illness. Services will be held at a later date in Cedar Rapids as well as Emmetsburg.
Emerson grew up on a farm in Mallard. He was one of 10 children. At a young age he enlisted in the Navy where he served on the USS Essex CV9 during World War II. Emerson also worked on the railroad, at Penick & Ford for 20 years, and then retired from Cargill after 20 years.
Emerson and Alice Schumacher married and had 11 children together. Later, they divorced. On Sept 1, 1984, Emerson then married Geraldine Powers. This year, they would have celebrated 30 years together.
He is survived by his wife, Geraldine, along with three sisters Marguerite (Bramley), Maxine (Rupert) and Betty Lou (Edwards).
Emerson was preceded in death by his mother, Gertrude (Forh), and father Fred, along with six siblings:? Robert, Laurence, Helen (Swanson),?William, Charles, Richard and Melba (Stroltz).
