Miss Shamrock &?Junior Miss Pageants This Sunday

The?Junior Miss Pageant and the Miss Shamrock Pageant will be held Sunday, March 2. Both pageants will be held in the afternoon.

"We decided to combine the Junior Miss and the Miss Shamrock Pageants this year and hold both during the afternoon, "?said Diane Brennan, Director of the Junior Miss Pageant.

The doors at Emmetsburg High School Auditorium will open at 1 p.m. Sunday, with the pageants beginning at 1:30 p.m.

The afternoon will kick off with a performance by the Algona Area Children's Choir. The choir is under the direction of Linda Mertz of West Bend.

Portions of the Miss Shamrock Pageant will be held between the Junior Miss competition.

Following introduction of special guests, Miss Shamrock contestants will be introduced in their Casual Wear.

The Little Miss Shamrock Pageant will be held.

Miss Shamrock contestants will perform their talent.

The Little Lassie Pageant will be held.

Miss Shamrock contestants will be introduced in their Formal Wear.

The Irish Miss Pageant will be held.

Casey Sievert, Miss Shamrock 2013, will be introduced to the audience.

This year's Miss Shamrock contestants will answer questions on stage.

Miss Congeniality will be announced and visiting queens will be introduced.

While the judges are tallying the votes, the Algona Area Children's Choir will perform.

The afternoon will conclude with crowning the 2014 Miss Shamrock Royalty.

2013 Little Miss Shamrock, Ava Burdorf, will perform a dance to "Jailhouse Rock." Ava is the daughter of Molly Burdorf of Graettinger.

Little Miss Shamrock contestants are between the ages of 5 and 8 years.

Emma Krause of Emmetsburg will perform a Vocal Solo, "These Boots Are Made For Walking." Emma is the daughter of Moe and Kim Krause.

Macy Harnden of Clive will perform a Gymnastics Routine to "I'm Shipping Up To Boston." Macy is the daughter of Matt and Holly Harnden.

Sacha Alesch of Graettinger will perform a Dance/Vocal Solo, "When Will My Life Begin." Sacha is the daughter of Teresa and Cody Alesch.

Jordan Blocker of Fenton will perform a Dance Solo to "Call Me Maybe." Jordan is the daughter of Mike and Doris Blocker.

Kylie Iverson of Emmetsburg will perform a Vocal Solo, "You Are My Sunshine." Kylie is the daughter of Shannon and Renee Iverson.

Raechel Ludwig-Foss of Curlew will Dance, "Irish Jig." Raechel's grandparents are Jim and Liza Ludwig.

Audrianna VanHeuvelen of Emmetsburg will perform a Vocal Solo, "Somewhere Over the Rainbow." Audrianna is the daughter of Laura and David VanHeuvelen.

2013 Little Lassie Tatum Iverson will perform a Vocal Solo, "Hallelujah." Tatum is the daughter of Shannon and Renee Iverson of Emmetsburg.

Kourtney Kogel of Emmetsburg will perform a Hip-Hop Dance to "Ice Cream Freeze." Kourtney is the daughter of Shayne and Michelle Kogel.

Ali Laubenthal of Emmetsburg will perform a Tap Dance to "Honey Bee." Ali is the daughter of Al and Julie Laubenthal.

Mattie Jo Dooley of Emmetsburg will perform a Vocal Solo, "Do You Know Where You're Going To." Mattie is the daughter of Dan and Mindy Dooley.

Macy McAllister of Emmetsburg will perform a Hip-Hop Dance to "Watch Me." Macy is the daughter of Troy and Brenda McAllister.

Aliza Woodford of Emmetsburg will play a Violin Solo, "Irish Washerwoman." Aliza is the daughter of Eric and Mary Woodford.

Jenna Joyce of Graettinger will perform a Jazz Dance, to "Fire Burning." Jenna is the daughter of Jerry and Angie Joyce.

Macy Alderson of Graettinger will perform a Jazz Dance to "Material Girl." Macy is the daughter of Joel and Trish Alderson.

Brooke Hospelhorn of Emmetsburg will perform a Vocal Solo, "Let It Go." Brooke is the daughter of Brian and Melissa Hospelhorn.

Jaden Templin of Estherville will perform a Jazz Dance to "Determinate." Jaden is the daughter of Josh and Cheri Nystrom, and Russell Templin.

2013 Irish Miss Kayla Joyce will perform a Vocal Solo, "Never Alone." She is the daughter of Pat and Tina Joyce of Emmetsburg.

Irish Miss contestants are between the ages of 13 and 16 years.

Hannah VanHeuvelen of Emmetsburg will perform a Vocal Solo, "Walking in the Air." Hannah is the daughter of Laura and David VanHeuvelen.

Greta Goodlaxon of Spirit Lake will perform a Pointe Dance to "Fix You." Greta is the daughter of Tom and Janey Goodlaxon.

Kiersten Duhn of Emmetsburg will perform a Vocal Solo, "Famous in a Small Town." Kiersten is the daughter of Marsha Duhn.

Lauren Lago of Newell will perform a Dance to "Applause." Lauren is the daughter of Doug and Marci Lago.

Competition in the Miss Shamrock Pageant includes an interview with the panel of judges prior to the program and then on-stage introduction in casual wear, a talent performance of the contestant's choice, an appearance in formal wear and an on-stage question.

Here is a look at the field of contestants for Miss Shamrock 2014.

Brittany Poeppe is a senior at Emmetsburg High School. The 18-year-old daughter of Mike and Mandy Poeppe of Graettinger, Brittany is active in student council, cheerleading, dance team, concert choir, show choir and the E-Hawk Buddy Tutoring Program. Brittany was also a Division 1 soloist and was named to the Honor Council for Student Council, selected for the Iowa Cheer Honor Squad and was selected to participate in Scholar Days at Buena Vista University in Storm Lake. Brittany has also received an Academic Letter for three years, attended the Governor's Academic Banquet and received an All-Academic Dance Team Award.

Brittany's future plans are to attend Buena Vista University in Storm Lake with a double major of Art and Digital Media. For her talent, Brittney will sing the musical selection of "Somethin's Got A Hold On Me".

Elizabeth Naviaux is a senior at Spirit Lake High School. The 18-year old daughter of Tom Naviaux and Dawn McCarthy of Spirit Lake, Elizabeth is active in competition dance team, is the president of her FFA Chapter, a member of the National Honor Society and has been a member of the Wrestling and Football Cheerleading squads. Elizabeth was named the student of the month in December 2013 at Spirit Lake High School. In her community, Elizabeth is the Vice President of the Dickinson County Youth Council, Spirit Lakers 4-H Club, the 2014 Ricochet Volunteer, and is a cheer coach at the Impulse Dance Academy for the Tiny and Mini teams. Elizabeth enjoys reading, swimming, running and spending time with friends and family.

Elizabeth plans to attend Northwestern College in Orange City with plans to major in Spanish Translation and Interpretation. For her talent, Elizabeth will be doing a Point Dance to the song "I Can Only Imagine".

Kendall Deitering is a senior at Emmetsburg High School. The 18-year old daughter of Brian and SueAnne Deitering of Emmetsburg, Kendall is active in show choir, concert choir and women's chorus. Kendall choreographed for the Middle School Show Choir, was the captain for the volleyball team and is captain of the Emmetsburg Dance Team, Radiance. She is Senior Class President and is active in the Junior Clippers 4-H Club where she currently holds the office of Vice President. Kendall enjoys spending time with friends and family and teaching First grade students during religious education classes. Kendall plans to attend the University of Northern Iowa to pursue a degree in Communicative Disorders in the fall of 2014. For talent, Kendall will be doing a dance number to "A Little Party Never Killed Nobody" from the Great Gatsby soundtrack.

Katlyn Meree Moore is a senior at Spencer High School and is the 17-year old daughter of Joe and Kelly Kuehler of Spencer, Katlyn is active in Chromatic Jazz and Pieces of Jazz groups, as well as Large group and Individual Speech and Drama. Katlyn is a three-year Honor Roll member and has been an All State Chorus and All State Individual vocal honoree, as well as an All State Speech participant four years. Katlyn is choir president at Spencer High School and President of the SHS?Thespians and enjoys singing, acting and working on accents. She also volunteers with the Positively Spencer Youth organization, her church and the Spencer Community Theater. Katlyn plans to attend the University of Northern Iowa to pursue a Music Education degree. For her talent, Katlyn will present a vocal selection.
