Emmetsburg's 2014 Citizen of the Year will be honored at the Annual Chamber of Commerce Banquet this Friday, Feb. 7.

Rick Brennan will receive the Charles Hughes Citizen of the Year Award.

"We are happy to announce Rick as our Citizen of the Year," said Deb Hite, Executive Director of Emmetsburg Chamber of Commerce. "By making the announcement in advance, this provides an opportunity for family and friends to make reservations to attend the banquet."

Rick Brennan was nominated for his extensive volunteer service to the community of Emmetsburg.

Brennan was nominated by Brent McAllister who cited Rick's remarkable ability to fundraise money in support of school and community projects. Brennan also serves on numerous boards and committees, including Flag Football and Emmetsburg Municipal Utilities Board of Trustees.

"I am flattered and honored to be named the Citizen of the Year," said Rick Brennan. "This is very unexpected and I thank you for this recognition. The real award should go to the community and the group of people that I work with to help promote Emmetsburg, its citizens and schools. Emmetsburg has been a wonderful community to live in and raise my family. Our roots here are deep and Diane and I are committed to making this the best place to live that it can possibly be. My wife Diane, children Patrick, Wesley, Evan and Annie are the reason I volunteer my time and get involved. Again, I thank you for this award."

"The nice part of Rick receiving the award is that he isn't involved in community activities for the recognition," said Kris Ausborn, President and CEO at Iowa Trust & Savings Bank. "Rick truly believes in giving back and making our small part of the world a better place."

Rick is past President of Emmetsburg Little League and Emmetsburg Chamber of Commerce He was co-chair of the Emmetsburg All-Weather Track Committee and served as a director on the Community Bankers of Iowa board.

"As Executive Vice President at Iowa Trust, Rick is constantly working to improve and develop services to meet the needs of our customers and staff," said Ausborn. "What this all adds up to is that Rick is an energetic, active leader with a clear vision and the courage to push to get things done."

Emmetsburg Chamber of Commerce 2014 Annual Banquet Celebration is Friday, Feb. 7, at the Wild Rose Casino Ballroom. The social hour begins at 6 p.m., followed by a buffet meal of sliced roast beef with gravy and Italian seasoned gilled chicken breast with all the trimmings at 6:30 p.m. The program of entertainment and awards presentation begins at 7:15 p.m.

In addition to the Citizen of the Year Award, Emmetsburg Chamber of Commerce will recognize Chamber members with the Catalyst award. This prestigious award celebrates the "inspiration, charity, wisdom, leader by example and breath of life" of a Chamber member. This award acknowledges and honors this exemplary level of commitment to the community of Emmetsburg.

Recipient of the catalyst award is Chamber nominated and Chamber chosen.

Again this year, 5 Under 40 will recognize five young professionals under age 40 who are making a difference in the community.

"This is a fantastic way to show how young professionals, young business persons in Emmetsburg are making a real difference in our community," said Deb Hite.

These awards are nominated by a Chamber member and are Chamber chosen.
