The Emmetsburg Freshman boys basketball team resumed action after the holiday break with a pair of contests that resulted in one win and one loss.
On Jan.9 the E-Hawk Freshmen traveled to Spencer and lost a heartbreaker to the Tigers by a 21-22 score.
Spencer was able to make some timely shots to take the advantage in the closely contested game.
Leading the way for the E-Hawks was Dalton Connolly with 14 points. Brent Wesley, Will Schany and Jason Huang added two points each and Grant Deitering added a free throw.
Matt Kibbie did a good job on the boards snatching nine rebounds for the E-Hawks.
In action on Jan. 13, the young E-Hawks played one of their best games of the year as they defeated Pocahontas Area by a 43-33 tally.
The E-Hawks did a great job of passing the ball assisting on 15 of their 18 baskets. After taking a three-point lead into half time, the E-Hawks came out firing on all cylinders in the second half scoring 18 straight points before Pocahontas was able to score again.
Leading the way for the E-Hawks was Will Schany with 12 points and Dalton Connolly with 10 points. Grant Deitering added eight points, while Brent Wesley added five and Matt Kibbie and Kyler Hofer rounded out the scoring with four points each. Jason Huang, Schany and Connolly each contributed four assists.
With the split in contests to start the second half of the season, the E-Hawks improved their record to 5-2 on the season.
