2014 First Baby Arrives At PACHS

Kate Marina Leuga Is Born January 12

Kate Marina Leuga is the "2014 New Year Baby" at Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg. She arrived Sunday, Jan. 12.

Little Miss Kate arrived at 2:27 a.m. She weighed 7 pounds, 1 ounce and measured 20-inches tall. Her parents are Flore and Louis Leuga.

Baby Kate was showered with gifts from members of Emmetsburg Chamber of Commerce.

The basket of gifts includes everything from clothing to toys - just what a little girl needs to start her life.

Welcoming baby Kate home are two big sisters and a big brother. Michelle is almost 8 years old, Lynn Stacey is 6 and brother Garry is 3.

"They can't wait for the baby to come home," said Flore last Monday morning. "They will be a lot of good help."

Flore Leuga is a student in the nursing program at Iowa Lakes Community College. Originally from Cameroon, Flore lived in New Jersey before coming to Iowa to go to school. She took advantage of the bridge program to transition from LPN to RN. She will graduate in May.
