E-Hawks Earn Placings At Clear Lake Tourney

CLEAR?LAKE - Competing at the Clear Lake Invitational on Saturday, Emmetsburg's E-Hawk wrestlers earned a half-dozen placings in the event, led by a third place finish for the young squad.

Dillon VanOosbree would collect a third place finish to lead the E-Hawks, as a limited lineup of eight healthy wrestlers at the varsity level showed improvement on the mats.

The E-Hawks collected a fourth place finish along with three fifth place finishes and a sixth place effort on the day.

Wrestling at 120 pounds, VanOosbree began his tournament by earning a 12-6 decision over Tanner Berger of Clear Lake in the opening round. However, in the semi-finals, VanOosbree was pinned in 1:41 b y Johnny Etherington of Charles City. VanOosbree would come back to pin Blake Jacobs of Forest City in 4:30 of the consolation semi-final and in the third place match, the E-Hawk scored a dominating 13-0 Major Decision over Tanner Berger of Clear Lake to earn the consolation title.

Chris VanHeuvelen started his tournament with a 3:23 win by fall over Quenton Boddie of LeMars, but was pinned in 1:03 by Andres Gonzalez of Clear Lake in the semi-finals. Moving into the consolation semi-final, VanHeuvelen scored a 3:52 win by fall over Clay Pierce of St. Ansgar, but in the consolation final, VanHeuvelen would end up on the wrong side of an 11-0 Major Decision loss to Tristan Boehm of Forest City to finish fourth.

At 106 pounds, Tanner Lundgren lost an 8-0 Major Decision to Nate Lasher of Charles City to open the tournament. Lundgren would earn a bye in the first consolation round, and then was pinned in 3:49 by Donny Allaway of LeMars. In the match for fifth place, Lundgren would earn a 9-1 Major Decision over Austin Parmely of Oelwein to finish fifth for the E-Hawks.

At 132 pounds, Jas Jamison ended up losing a hard-fought 5-2 decision to Carter Block of Oelwein to move into the consolation bracket. Jamison then met Colton Rowe of West Fork, and earned a 10-8 decision win, but in the consolation semi-finals, Jamison was the victim of a 14-2 Major Decision to Nic Madsen of LeMars. Wrestling for fifth place, Jamison scored a 6-5 decision victory over Ethan Mayer of St. Ansgar to earn the placing.

Wrestling at 182 pounds, Robert Nelson was the victim of a :36 fall in the opening round against Jake Staudt of Forest City. In the Consolation opener, Nelson came back to dominate in an 11-2 Major Decision win over Robby McKeeman of Oelwein. Nelson would then meet Nick Jacobs of Charles City, but came up short in a 20-8 Major Decision loss to move to the fifth place match. Meeting James Vestweber of West Fork, Nelson would earn the fifth place finish with a 3:22 win by fall.

Gage Jamison would open his tournament losing a 15-0 Technical Fall in 3:55 to Kaid Bruce of St. Ansgar, but in the first consolation round, Jamison earned a 5-0 decision win over Tony Fifito of LeMars. But in the consolation semi-final, Gage would lose a 16-0 Technical Fall in 4:00 to Austin Duffy of Oelwein to move to the fifth place match. Meeting TJ Hauser of Clear Lake, Jamison was pinned in :29 to settle for sixth place.

Also wrestling for the E-Hawks on Saturday were Caige Elbert at 145 pounds and Pat Brennan at 285 pounds.

In the opening round at 145, Caige Elbert would be pinned in 3:51 of his match with Alex Mitchell of Charles City to move into the consolation round. However, Elbert was pinned in 5:01 of his match with Cole Stanford of Oelwein to end his tournament appearance.

Pat Brennan squared off against Alex Hermes of LeMars in the opening round of action at 285 pounds and was the victim of a 1:00 fall. Moving to the consolation round, Brennan met Chandler Holmes of Algona and was pinned in 1:32 to end his tournament.

The E-Hawks have a different schedule for the coming week as they travel to Rockwell City tonight (Tuesday) for a double duel with Manson Northwest Webster and South Central Calhoun, and then travel to West Lyon High School in Inwood on Friday night for dual action.
