Chamber To Honor Community Leaders at Banquet

Nominate Leaders To Be Honored

Emmetsburg Chamber of Commerce will once again honor residents of the community at the 2014 annual Awards Banquet. Nominations in three categories are currently being accepted:

Emmetsburg's 2014 Citizen of the Year

2013 Catalyst Award 5 Under 40

"Each year we honor the Citizen of the Year and present the prestigious Catalyst award," said Deb Hite, Executive Director of Emmetsburg Chamber of Commerce. "This is the second year we will be honoring 5 under 40."

Theme for the 2014 Chamber Banquet is TEAM - Together Everyone Achieves More. "We have so many positive projects going on in our community right now, we recognize that it takes a good deal of teamwork to get them accomplished," said the Chamber Director. "We have many dedicated people making a difference."

Nomination deadline for all categories is Monday, Jan. 27. Criteria for nominations:

2014 Charles A. Hughes Citizen of the Year

Emmetsburg's Citizen of the Year is an individual who gives of him/her self tirelessly. This individual is dedicated to service to the community. This individual also gives without expectation. This individual does not have to be a Chamber member.

Citizen of the Year is nominated by community residents. The Chamber board will select the recipient.

Written nominations for Citizen of the Year should be sent to Emmetsburg Chamber of Commerce, 1121 Broadway, Emmetsburg, IA 50536.

2014 Catalyst

This prestigious award celebrates the "inspiration, charity, wisdom, leader by example and breath of life" of a Chamber member. This award acknowledges and honors this exemplary level of commitment to the community of Emmetsburg.

Recipient of the Catalyst award is Chamber nominated and Chamber chosen.

5 Under 40

"This is a fantastic way to show how young professionals, young business persons in Emmetsburg are making a real difference in our community," said Deb Hite. "Look around at your co-workers, bosses, friends and colleagues and think about who meets the following criteria."

--Individuals under the age of 40 as of Dec. 31, 2013. "You may have to ask, but that person will be honored that you are thinking of them for an award,"?said Hite.

--Individuals who are either business owners or who are an employee within your organization. "For example, a business may want to recognize one of their employees under the age of 40, or the school may nominate an exceptional teacher under the age of 40,"?Hite explained.

--Individuals with a history of displaying vision and leadership, innovation and achievement, impact, growth and development, and involved within the community and making contributions.

--Individuals dedicated to Emmetsburg.

--Individuals who exhibit people skills, mentoring skills and personal integrity.

"We encourage everyone to look around the community to help us recognize five of our young professionals under 40 years of age," said Hite. "These awards must be nominated by a Chamber member and will be chamber chosen."

Chamber Banquet

Emmetsburg Chamber of Commerce Annual Banquet is Friday, Feb. 7, at the Wild Rose Casino Ballroom. A social time begins at 6 p.m. with the meal served at 6:30 p.m. Hannah Bird will provide entertainment during the evening.
