MALLARD -- Funeral service for Jerry W. Brown was held ?Monday, Dec. 9, at the United Methodist Church in Mallard. The Rev. Evelyn Lewiston officiated.
Interment was in Rush Lake Cemetery, Mallard. The Harris Funeral Home in Mallard was in charge of arrangements.
Jerry Wilson Brown was born to James and Isolina "Betty" Brown on Aug. 20, 1952 in Emmetsburg. He graduated from Mallard High School in 1970. He attended Northwestern College in Orange City and was a member of the 1973 NAIA National Championship Red Raider football team, graduating in 1974.
Jerry worked as a golf course superintendent for several years before earning a Master's Degree in Turfgrass Management from Iowa State University. He worked for a few years at SeaSide Golf (Alabama) and then spent the remainder of his career with Landscapes Unlimited (Lincoln, NE), building and remodeling golf courses around the United States.
He has three children: Corey (Abby) Brown of Urbandale, Abbey Brown of Emmetsburg, and Brian (Liz) Brown of Emmetsburg, and many grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Jerry was a man of faith and enjoyed working hard, spending time with his many friends, golfing, hunting and riding his horse, Trip.
Jerry passed away Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013 in Rochester, MN after a long battle with cancer.
Jerry is preceded in death by his mother. Survivors include his three children and his grandchildren; his father; and his sisters, Nancy (Dan) Nesheim of Mallard, Barb (Scott) Benz of Lake City, Diana (Don) McKim of Creston.
