RUTHVEN -- Memorial service for Bernadine M. Coleman will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, at Zion Lutheran Church in Ruthven. The Rev. Tom Summerfield will officiate.
Inurnment will be in Crown Hill Cemetery, Ruthven. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Ruthven is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Ruthven.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the Bernadine Coleman Memorial Fund.
Bernadine Marie Janssen, daughter of Bernard and Nellie (Garrelts) Janssen, was born Nov. 12, 1929 in Great Oak Township, Ayrshire. She attended country school and Ayrshire Consolidated High School, graduating in 1948.
On Jan. 23, 1951, Bernadine was united in marriage to Lawrence Coleman in Jackson, MN. Their first home was located in rural Ayrshire for two years and then they moved closer to Ruthven where they farmed. On the farm Bernadine drove grain to the elevators and she was secretary for County Mutual Insurance in Ruthven.
In 1969, Lawrence and Bernadine moved into Ruthven and Bernadine continued working for Victor and Marie Hanson in the Insurance Office for 13 years until her retirement. She was a member of American Legion Auxiliary and Zion Lutheran Church.
Bernadine passed away on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013 in Mason City, at the age of 84. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Carl Janssen and Philip Janssen; grandson, Matthew Coleman; sisters-in-law, Marie Janssen, Kathleen Johnson and Nola Coleman; brothers-in-law, Gene Coleman, Duke Malm and Larry Lee; nephews, Mike Coleman, Mark Coleman, Mark Davis, and Dennis Malm.
She is survived by her husband, Lawrence of Ruthven; children, Larry (Kathy) Coleman of Ruth-ven, Carleen (Bill) Lambert of Spirit Lake, Paul (Connie) Coleman of Ventura, and Della Soenen of Emmetsburg; 12 grandchildren; 16 great grand- children; brother, Robert Janssen; sister, Ruth (Ron) Davis; sisters-in-law, Cecelia Janssen, Florence Malm, and Marlys Lee; brother-in-law, Harry Johnson.
