Funeral service for Judith L. Nerlien of Curlew was held Saturday, Nov. 9, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mallard. The Rev. Neil Hayen officiated.
Interment was in Rush Lake Cemetery, Curlew. The Martin-Mattice Furneral Home in Emmetsburg was in charge of arrangements.
Judith "Judy" LaVerne (Tweten) Nerlien was born on July 30, 1922, the daughter of Melvin and Sarah (Hagen) Tweten in Hamburg, ND. Judy was baptized on Aug. 7, 1922, and reaffirmed the faith of her baptism through confirmation on Oct. 10, 1937, at the Hamburg Lutheran Church.
Judy graduated from high school at Maddock, ND. She was united in marriage to Lyle Nerlien on July 2, 1946, at Moorhead, MN, and to this union three sons were born, Lanny, Michael, and Gary.
Judy worked at the Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg for 20 years as a Certified Nurses Assistant.
Judy served on the Town Council for several years at Curlew and also served on the Election Board.
Judy enjoyed cooking, and baking, but her greatest love and enjoyment was being a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
Judy was a devoted member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Mallard, teaching Sunday school for several years, and was an active member of the Rebecca Circle at the church.
Judith "Judy" LaVerne (Tweten) Nerlien, 91, of Curlew, died Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013, at the Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.
Those left to cherish her memory are her two sons, Michael (Kathy) Nerlien of Rochester, MN, and Gary (June) Nerlien of Northwood; eight grandchildren, Kari (Jim) May of Champaign, IL, Daniel Nerlien of Rochester, MN, and Chris-topher (Christina) Nerlien of St. Paul, MN, Jennifer (Rusty) Wahl of Northwood, Adam (Brooke) Nerlien of Clarion, Justin Nerlien of Northwood, Kevin (Jessica) Truax of St. Paul, MN and Sarah Truax of Rochester, MN; ten great grandchildren, Nicole, Abigail, and Cody Wahl, Shelby, Andrew, and Jamie May, Ana Mahan, Harper and Elliet Nerlien, and Eleanor Truax; daughter-in-law, Sue Hess of Champaign, IL; as well as other extended family members and friends.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents; husband Lyle Nerlien who died on Jan. 23, 1999, and her brother Ernest Tweten who was killed in World War II; her son, Lanny Nerlien who died July 5, 2011, and her grandson Matthew Nerlien who died on Aug. 11, 2011.
She will be missed but her memory will remain forever.
